American Civil War Era Sheer Print Dress

D436, 1860's Civil War Era Silk Sheer Print Dress Major Museum De-accession: This lovely 1860's civil war era dress was created of fine silk blend sheer fabric in a gorgeous pattern. The colors are still rich and lovely. It is totally lined in a off white cotton which is in good vintage condition. The bust is 31, the waist is 21, the skirt length is 43 and it is 164 inches around the bottom. I purchased this from the first Augusta auction that sold part of the Brooklyn Museum collection. The condition of the silk is rough with excessive damage to the bodice and one sleeve. Some damage to the other sleeve, and both underarms and one of the back sides has some of the fabric deterioration. See photos. You can see the white tissue showing through on one sleeve that has larger tears. The back bodice is not too bad and the skirt is not too bad. The bodice is missing some of its hooks and eyes. Very few of the gowns made of this type of fabric survive. When they are in perfect condition they sell for thousands of dollars. This one is far from perfect but could be displayed effectively. I have packed it in a larger than normal box with lots of tissue to preserve it better while shipping. The bidding will start at .99 with no reserve.
