This is a place for any extant garments in private collections from about 1941 back. There is no beginning date. The only rule is that it can't be currently in a museum and must be before the bombing of Pearl Harbor. I mostly post items I've seen on ebay, etsy, or other auction sites so we will continue to have a record of them for research purposes. If you have antique clothing in your collection, please, email me pictures of them and I will gladly add them to this site.

1920's Long Sleeved Sheer Dress
From the seller:
Treat yourself
to this adorable silk chiffon c. 1920
...lacey bib...triple tiered handerchief hemline
* in overall fair-good condition *
Apologies: shoulder tears [ undoubtedly hanger trauma ] do not show, under bib...but should be reinforced
small pin holes under L. arm...hip sash needs to be re-attached
* just a beautful piece...worth a bit of TLC
Measurements [lying flat]:
underarm-underarm: 18" hips: 18" length: 43"
Enjoy !
On Sep-16-14 at 14:52:58 PDT, seller added the following information:
Update: I am re-attaching the hip sash...and I have also reinforced the shoulders a bit [there is plenty of fabric in the tiers to fashion a patch for both shoulders]
I think there was once a flower or other embellishment on the front of dress [ where you see a folded over piece of fabric ]
Thanks for your interest & questions.
From Me:
....The seller threw away the slip (even if it's shredded, it could still give some idea of color, types of fabric, and shape), used pins to attach the hip scarf on to the dress dummy (and you wonder why there are pin holes in the fabric?), and might have even taken fabric from elsewhere in the dress to "reinforce" the shoulders? Seriously, just bad all around.
At least we have pictures to preserve some part of the dress!
