Skirt measure 13" across waist, 25" across hips and 44" long from waist to bottom edge and is longer down back of skirt.

From Me:

I'm hesitant to post this one and I'm not sure it is antique. There are aspects of it that look more like "Hollywood Old West" movie set outfit that an actual antique gown. However, the cut itself, complete with the off center belt buckle, is pretty consistent with 1884 fashions.  ...Even if the trim does look like something I just bought at Jomar...

Late 1880's Day Dress in Blue and Red

From the seller:

Gorgeous bustle gown in a tone on tone stripe silk brocade and a contrasting red and navy velvet & twill silk brocade, ca. 1890. The waist has a collar in velvet with a pleat bib front and velvet stripe lapels. Gorgeous blue cut steel buttons close down the center front. Dart fitted under the bust through to the hemline. Pleated fan peplum rests on the bustle. Long, set in sleeves end with a turned under finish and velvet stripe fluted cuffs. The dart fitted and gored skirt falls in alternating panels of the brocades. Blue muslin section at the upper back skirt with a back hook closure. Over skirt falls in gathers from a string tie and rests across the bustle. Good condition. There is edge wear on some of the seams of the bodice. Underarm stains with minor breaking to the silk. There is a large greenish stain on the front hemline. A few pin holes on the lower overskirt. There are a couple other tiny dots, but nothing major. The decoration is not included.
Waist: ~ 23"
Bust: ~ 28"
Front Length: ~ 56"
Back Length: ~ 59"

From Me:

I love how garish this outfit is. It's like an understated patriotic dress that didn't quite want to go for the full red, white, and blue. However, based on the fit, this was probably for a young lady.  The colors were very popular in 1888.  Also, the sleeves in 1890 had already started to "poof", so this is probably from about 1888.

Beautiful 1880's Bodice

Beautiful heavily braided bodice, with velvet trim. It has waist and front closure. Not sure what the fabric is but feels like a woven cotton. Teal like color.

~Gold braid

~Lovely velvet trim, but shows wear.

~13 bones, nicely finished lining.

~Front closure, 20 hooks and eyes (2 extra bones under the hooks and eyes).

~3/4 length sleeves, with velvet and gold braid trim.

~Some pin holes and wear. A couple of marks/stains (but don't stand out)

This is a very sturdy bodice, but could use some light needle work.

Front shoulder to bottom 21"

Back shoulder to bottom 20"

Waist 26"

1886 Fashion Plate

This bodice is so very 1880's - the way it's cut, the trim lines, the line of the bodice, that little tail in the back of the bodice.   If you follow the link beneath the fashion plate, you'll be able to find the same fashion plate and view it BIG.   There, it should be easier to see the "velvet" waist trim on the fashion plate bodice...which is also very much like the extant bodice here.   :-)

1880's Baby Blue Dressing Gown with Jaw Dropping Back!

From the seller:

1870 BLUE DRESSING GOWN 1-PIECE GOWN WITH TRAIN MUSEUM DE-ACCESSIONED

This is an attractive dressing gown of the 1870's period, that a mid to upper class woman would wear. A regal sky blue 1 piece dressing gown made of lightweight plain weave challis.

Recently de-accessioned from the Rochester historical museum in New York state. The gown still retains it's original Museum ID catalog tag, inside as well as string tags and the name of the person that wore and donated the gown.

The bodice of this gown is decorated with a torchon bobbin net lace 3 tiered trim collar around the neckline. Down the front opening is adorned with satin ribbon bows with streamers. The bodice has fabric covered button front closure. The cuffs are decorated with tulle. One lace cuff is missing. One sleeve has a stain as seen in photos. Nice decorative pockets.

The gown is fully lined with white cotton. The sleeves have a slight curve and tapering at the elbow. The sleeves have scattered small holes and has no underarm discolorations.
One lace cuff is missing.

I find only a few minor problems with the skirt. The back is gathered with fullness in the back for a nice fall and bustle effect. The rear puff enhances the outfit nicely. The bottom ruffle has opened up and needs to be reattached, an easy fix. The bottom of the skirt has a few small areas of roughness at edges, some lace has ripped and is dingy. The skirt has a few very small pin holes scattered about. The skirt is in very good condition.

Overall the gown needs to be cleaned to refresh.

BODICE:

Bust 32-1/2",

Waist 32",

Sleeve Length 18-1/2" + lace. Lace 1-1/2".

Across shoulder 12"

Front skirt length 50"

Back length 62-1/2".

Condition: The gown is in good condition.

A truly grand display dress/gown or for study or for display.

From Me:

That back!  I'm pretty sure this is 1880's - the front looks similar to some 1890's dressing gowns but the back is very much all bustle era.
