Edwardian Striped Outfit with Lace Insert

From the seller:

This is a black and white fine cotton striped skirt and blouse. The blouse has a “T” design in front with off white crochet lace and a black velvet trim. It has a high collar which has a repairable hole with some find needlework, in the front crochet and similar hole at back near hook closure. This blouse is in good condition except for above mentioned and some shredding on the inside silk lining behind the front crochet lace. The blouse as a whole is still very pretty and it matches skirt.

The skirt which is also in good condition. It does have a hole in back (see last photo) which is hardly noticeable. It has double hooks at back waist, a small train with some room for a small bustle perhaps. The waist band is solid and there are six back hooks. The hem and dress as a whole appears to be machine sewn with early chain stitch. There are two black bands of velvet across the middle of the skirt and this elegantly matches the black velvet trims of the blouse. This dress is delicate because of its age but could be displayed nicely or worn at owners discretion.

Shoulders 12", Waist 16.5 ", Length 19 ", Across front under arms 20 ". Skirt: Shoulders 14", Length 36".

From Me:

It was far too dark to post anything yesterday. Today, I chose a more somber outfit.

The blouse should be tucked in but this is an Edwardian skirt and blouse. There would not have been a bustle.

These are Antique clothing items. there will or could be rips, holes, stains snags, odors, hem lines coming lose. unseen flaws. you might even get a moth... I will do my best to point these out.
Measurements are amateur.

From Me:

The waist should be tucked in...not out like a peplum. I like that this one was most likely homemade and you can tell on the inside of the bodice/blouse.  And yes, no bustle - it looks ridiculous with the skirt and you can see the hem isn't even at all with the bustle in one of the pictures.

1905 Fashion Plate

The sleeve style was popular around 1905 and the pigeon front was still popular then as well. I think this dress would look lovely with a simple matching colored belt or waist to offset the skirt and blouse.

Lovely Buttercream Yellow 1890's Dress

From the seller:

Victorian ca 1870's Ivory Silk 2Pc Dress w Beading SM This beautiful Victorian dress is made from a very heavy silk satin. The bodice is lined with bones in the seams. It hooks down the front an dhas wide beaded trim around the bottom and some on the edge of the sleeves. It has very gathered sleeves tapering to the wrist. IT has opened seam on the shoulder, missing the trim / lace or silk on the front yoke, a few very small pin head to just over holes. Both the skirt and the top have small scattered spots and is overall dusty looking, missing beads. It measures 29 inches around the bust, waist is 20 1/2 and is 18 inches long from shoulder to center front point. The skirt has pretty cording around the bottom edge, it's lined in cotton and hooks at the waist. It's smooth in front and pleated in back, there's a ribbon across the back to hold the pleats in place underneath. A few very light, small spots and a few pin head holes, but there is a water spot on the back (photo), waistband has a few tears. There are 2 streamers with beaded fringe that are detached.  It measures 21 inches around the waist, hips full and it's 38 inches long.

From Me:
How anyone could mistake this for an 1870's bustle with those sleeves is beyond me. Clearly, this is mid 1890's. Given the measurements, to include the skirt being 38" long, I think this was for a teenager and not an adult.

Ruffles along the bottom of the skirt's hem, along the collar in tiers and and the cuffs.  Romantic balloon sleeves.  Ruffles are trimmed in pink silk ribbon.  Ruched waist, sleeves and along the neckline.  Bodice is lined in white cotton.  So rare to find a great print like this from so long ago.
Some slight discoloration in a couple places.  Small tear on bodice, and on skirt.
Bust: 30"
Waist: 22" -- has a lot of fabric on top of interior corset so can be worn if a bigger size
Shoulder to shoulder: 24"
Sleeve length: 19 1/2"
Bodice length: 17"
Skirt length: 39"

From Me:

1904 Fashion Plate

Just like the gown in the fashion plate, this extant one as the quarter length billowing sleeves, the ridiculous but lovely ruffles around the shoulders and neck, and does not have the mock turtleneck neckline that we typically find in the 1890's/1900's. I love the rose print and just how spring this dress is.

Edwardian Day Dress in Brown

From the seller:

Two piece afternoon dress, ca. 1897. Made of rusty brown velvet corduroy with yellow stripes. High inset lace dickey. Black net trim with cream and gold embroidery. Cut steel on gold metal buckle. Little train of the skirt. Very good condition. Only the fabric beneath the lace is worn on a few places. The jacket edge show worn. The decoration is not included.
Bust: ~ 33"
Waist: ~ 24"
Front Length: ~ 54"
Back Length: ~ 64"

From Me:

I really think this is an older lady's dress and that it's from a bit later than the seller thinks. This was a hard one to date because I can see why the seller thinks it is late 1890's. However, 1897, still had a bit of the crazy 1890's sleeve left, which this doesn't have at all.  Instead, look at how the waist is pleated to look like a full dress belted.  Notice how flat the front of the skirt is and how much volume is towards the back.

This one is from 1909.

1909 Fashion Plate

Although you start to see the waistlines go up in 1908, many ladies were still wearing outfits at the natural waist going into 1910.  The above fashion plate, the pink dress shows the flat front with the waistline gathered.

1909 Fashion Plate
The above fashion plate makes the whole flat front with pleats on the sides and volume to the back much clearer.
