Teen's Era Spring Lace Gown

ANTIQUE VICTORIAN EDWARDIAN FRENCH SILK & LACE BODICE (only)FESTOONED W/ FLOWERS. This sumptuous Parisian bodice is layered with fine lace and pink and blue silk ribbon. It features a wide sash at waist with silk flowers (that need pressing & a few stitches). There are ivory silk ribbons inside marked Paris. The inside ivory silk taffeta lining is shattering and could be removed/replaced. Measurements flat: 13” S, 16” B, 13” W. This is being sold as is because it needs restoration. It is otherwise an amazingly constructed piece. All items have been purchased directly from estates and have not been altered unless otherwise mentioned.  See pictures, read description, sold as is. 256-8  Note: this auction is for bodice only. Skirt offered in another of my auctions. These pieces are not a set and feature different lace and lining materials.  Additionally: more pictures of designer labeling and of shattering available.

ANTIQUE EDWARDIAN FRENCH EMBROIDERED IVORY NET LACE W/ PINK SILK TAFFETA LINING SKIRT (only). This extraordinary skirt measures 11” W, and 39” L. The lace has darkened from age and would be stunning if carefully laundered so that the pink lining shows better. It is in very good overall condition with a couple areas of lace that need stitching. No shattering of silk. All items have been purchased directly from estates and have not been altered unless otherwise mentioned. See pictures, read description, sold as is. 256-6  Note: this auction is for the skirt only. Bodice offered in another of my auctions. These pieces are not a set and feature different lace and lining materials.

1911 Fashion Plate

I'm not sure why the seller thought it would be a good idea to try and sell the fragile skirt and bodice as separate pieces.   The pieces were clearly meant to be together.  Very much an early Teen's style and gorgeous in it's day.

At least the seller provided plenty of photos if anyone would like to recreate it!

Item description from the seller

This is a very charming 1820s corset. It is not boned, just made of sturdy cotton twill in white and blue creating this beautiful, soft denim-blue. Denim was produced for centuries before "jeans" as we know them began to be produced in the mid-nineteenth century. I won't call this fabric denim BUT it IS a cotton twill in this beautiful blue. Maybe it is an early version. Lined in robust cotton with a tabby weave (canvas?), The corset is wonderfully hand-sewn. The interior side-seams are amazingly beautiful. It is pieced, indicating a resourceful maker. I count 12 pieces of the blue fabric alone. Look closely at the upper back photos to see the piecing. There are 16 bone grommets. The last two photos show the corset laced up- Don't mock my technique. I worked with what I had. The lacing I used is not included.

*Condition: Structurally sturdy with age-related foxing, 4 missing grommets at the bottom. The bottom 2 holes have torn through to the edge. Some wear to the right armhole and shoulder seam. Very suitable for study and display. Not wearable. Look at photos carefully.

* Measurements are provided for display only.  28" chest, 19.75" waist, 28" hip. These are approximate.

*Please ask all questions before bidding- Thank you!

From Me:

1820s stays are pretty distinctive in themselves.  Metal grommets weren't invented until 1828 so bone grommets make perfect sense.  The dye is likely indigo as it was the cash crop at the time.

Item description from the seller

Stunning and very rare Georgian/Victorian Authentic Silk & tule Antique Ball Gown.

Champagne/Ivory in color, damask print. It is from 1830’s-1870’s or earlier.

Gorgeous cascade of tule/lace down the front and arms.

Beautiful example of an elegant gown from its time.

There are 3 small tears in the gown as shown in the pictures, they can be fixed. But in excellent shape being as old as it is.

I would consider this a museum quality piece even with the minor tears in the silk.

This dress has 8 eyelets hooks.

Amazing shape and fullness in the rear as of the fashion time period.

Has two small weights sewn in the dress.

Feel free to message me with any questions.

From Me:

Hello everyone!  This one is rather different simply because it's clearly a fancy dress outfit.  It's pretty clearly mid-20th C with those tulle ruffles but whether it's 1930's or even 1950's isn't as clear.  I'm keeping it in the 1930's for now because the 1930's were all about the ruffles.

Above are just a couple of examples of 1930's Fancy Dress trying to recreate the late 18th C fashions.

And examples of 1930's ruffles:
