Plus Sized Victorian Gown

From the seller:

This antique Victorian era floral silk brocade black lace bustle ball gown skirt train dress dates from 1880. It is made of a grayish brown taupe color silk brocade damask fabric with a tulip floral pattern design. There is a sheer black lace polka dot net large flounce shawl collar, with black silk floral applique trim accents. This beautiful bustle ball gown dress has a squared front neckline, 3/4 length puffy sleeves, a pleated drape bustle back long train skirt, with hook & eye closures. It is lined in a polished brown cotton print fabric, with a dust ruffle petticoat skirt lining underneath and the owners name tag label sewn inside. The dress is a large size, measuring 57 inches long in the front, 72 inches long in the back, with a 34 inch waist, 36 inch bust and 13 inch back. It is in good wearable condition, with slight underarm discoloration, some faint age spotting on the front bodice and skirt (see close-up).

From Me:

I love seeing the larger sized gowns. Not everyone was tiny, even back then.

Late 1920's Dress

From the seller:

This vintage black silk chiffon ecru lace shawl collar cape drop waist dress dates from the 1920s. It is made of a black sheer silk chiffon fabric, with an ecru lace trim applique collar. This stunning dress has a loose fitting drop waist style, with an attached large shawl collar cape, V tie sash front neckline and long full skirt. It is sheer, unlined and would need a slip underneath. The dress measures 57 inches long, with 40 inch hips, a 36 inch waist and 40 inch bust. There is a tiny pin hole on the shoulder collar, under the arm and several tiny frayed holes along the bottom skirt hemline which could be shortened.

From Me:

My guess is this is from the later 1920's rather than earlier based on the neckline.

Black and Pink Victorian Skirt

From the seller:

This lovely Victorian petticoat is made from black silk faille, it has a wide ruffle of pretty netting and a wide band of the faille, backed in a rosy pink taffeta. The petticoat has some tears under the waistband, a horrible iron on patch and a few tears on the side, the pink ruffle underneath is also splitting, the lace ruffle is good. It could be repaired to make it wearable, but it's not falling apart at the touch, but would be best for doll clothes or salave. IT has 2 - 1 inch tucks in the waistband, so could be about 4 inches larger if released. IT mesures now, 26 inches around the waist, hips are full and it's 39 inches long. as is.

From Me:

Although it's in poor condition, I had to post this one just due to the PINK accent. I love the look of black net over a color that bright.

Edwardian Titanic Era Summer Blouse

From the seller:

Greetings and welcome to our auction.

I attended an auction held by a local museum and purchased several vintage pieces. They were selling off excess items to raise funds for an expansion project. So this has been carefully displayed and stored for many years.

This blouse dates back to the turn of the century. I think this may have been part of an empire waisted dress. The skirt has been removed and so just the top part of the dress is available.

It features:

* A small lace collar

* Made of cotton that is embroidered and lace

* Two snaps on the back with part of one snap missing as shown in the 6th photo

* Belled sleeves with delicate lace

MEASUREMENTS for TOP: All measurements were taken when article of clothing was laying flat on table.

BUST: (measured from under the arms) 17"

ACROSS THE SHOULDERS: 17 1/4"

WAIST: 18"

LENGTH OF ARMS: (measured from under the arms to bottom of sleeve) 8 1/4"

LENGTH from back of neck to bottom of blouse: 12"

CONDITION:

The blouse appears to be in pretty nice, gently used vintage condition. In the last photo I tried to show you a small area with a small hole and pin prick sized spot. In the 8th photo I tried to show you some discoloration on the sleeve. There are a few areas where it has come apart at the seams.

There is some slight discoloration as associated with age and I see a few other small spots on the back and along the edge in front.

All in all it a pretty nice item.

I hope to have hit the high points, please let me know if you have any questions.

Even though I have disclosed the flaws in this please note that I am selling this in "As is" condition. I think I've found the areas of concern but there may be a few that I have overlooked.

Please LOOK at our other listings. I will be listing some additional Victorian era items tonight.

I will always combine shipping.

Thanks for looking and have fun ebaying.

From Me:

I'm sure if this was cleaned, it would looks fabulous. The style of the blouse places it in the early teens era.

1890's Olive Green Silk Dress

From the seller:

1890's Silk Faille Gibson Girl Dress:

This 1890's brown silk faille dress with the leg a mutton sleeves is the perfect silhouette for a Gibson girl. The skirt has a waist of 23 and a length of 37.5. The bodice has a bust of 33, a waist of 23.5 and a shoulder of 13. There is metallic trim to the bodice and on the cuff of the sleeves. There is a hook missing on the bodice and another hook that needs to be sewn back on. The condition of the bodice is good overall, but the skirt has some dark stains down the front and splattered on it. Because of the deep color they aren't so noticeable at first. In soft museum lighting they disappear all together. I tried to photo the stains but they didn't show in the pictures. The dress makes a great display piece. There is a "L" shape tear inside one of the big pleats on the back of the skirt. It has been mended and is not noticeable because it is inside the pleating. This is a wonderful piece of fashion history. The bidding will start at 25.00. We will be leaving for Thanksgiving Holiday on Nov. 21 so if you want us to ship the dress before we return you must pay for it by noon on Nov. 20. Happy Holidays to all.

From Me:
I'm sorry for posting so much 1890's lately, however, that's what's being posted. :-)

Late Victorian Lace Blouse

From the seller:

This was I am sure quite beautiful in its day but it's in need of some help now. Selling it as in for it's gorgeous trims, parts and possibly pattern to someone who can use it.

Under the gorgeous floral (daffodils?) embroidered lace is silk which is disintegrating. It is boned along the waist, and has large puffy sleeves with metalic gold trim as shown.

Please note: I will be out of town until December 16th and should have access to email but may be unable to answer some questions until I return.

From Me:
This is a turn of the century bodice. My guess is late 1890's but it could easily be early Edwardian.

Teal Late Victorian Bodice

From the seller:

VINTAGE: 1880-1890s

DESCRIPTION: Amazing jacket in teal color silk. This Victorian jacket is near mint. When I first saw it, I thought it was a reproduction because the color and condition were so fantastic! I was later told that the owner of the jacket bought it at an estate sale in the 1960s.

I had a local collector/costume designer take a look at it because I'm not an expert of this time period. I took lots of photos so you can see how it's made. Hand stitching, boning possibly whale. Silk everything. She used more terms but I didn't write them down.

You can see a standing collar, vertical pleated neckline, a "collar" of steel cut beads, front and back and on sleeves. Double layer closures at the waist. Lace accents on the sleeves as well as loop beadwork. On the back are tails with beaded ball dangles. Take a look at all the pictures and let them do the talking! Email with any questions, please!

FABRIC: Silk

APPROX. SIZE: 0-2 (based on chest & shoulders)
MEASUREMENTS (measured on the body form):
Bust: 30" (that includes across the cup)
Waist: 24"
Sleeve Length, seam to lace cuff: 25"
Shoulder seam to shoulder seam across the back: 12.5"

CONDITION: Excellent for its age, but not perfect.
• One tear along inside waist fabric (the ivory fabric near the hooks and eyes). See last pic.
• One fabric loop needs replacing at the neckline.
• One button is missing, but its respective buttonhole is hidden under the beadwork.
• Some beads missing on the dangle balls in back.
• Parts of the applique beadwork was coming off, so I hand-sewed it back on.
• One seam binding is undone. See second- and third-last pictures.

LABEL: None

From Me:
Such a pretty color! I also love that the seller took photos of how the actual bodice went together. Yay!

Late Victorian Detailed Dress

From the seller:
Greetings and welcome to our auction.

I attended an auction held by a local museum and purchased several vintage pieces. They were selling off excess items to raise funds for an expansion project. So this has been carefully displayed and stored for many years.

This 2 piece dress/gown dates back to the turn of the century.

It features:

* A high collar with detailed bodice

* Winged Lapels

* Beaded trim on winged lapels and around the waist band of the jacket/blouse

* Boned bodice

* Long, full skirt with scalloped ruffled trim around the bottom

* Fastens with Hook and eye

* Beautifully Lined

* It is both machine stitched and hand stitched

* I don't see a label inside this to identify the maker or manufacturer

* Done in a rich dark chocolate brown and a golden colored fabric

* I'm not sure of the fabric but the dark brown looks like a grograin ribbon fabric and the golden colored fabric has a slight sheen to it. I don't believe that it's silk.

* The back of the skirt is pleated so that you could use a bustle with this.

* There is some kind of a boning sewn in around the bottom of the hemline to give it some slight flare to prevent it from hanging limp from the weight of the fabric.

* This is very small and it doesn't fit my mannequin which is a size 4. I would say this is a size 0-2.

I think this is actually PRETTIER than I'm able to capture with the camera.

MEASUREMENTS for TOP: All measurements were taken when article of clothing was laying flat on table.

BUST: (measured from under the arms) 18"

ACROSS THE SHOULDERS: 12 1/2"

WAIST: 12"

LENGTH OF ARMS: (measured from under the arms to bottom of sleeve) 17"

LENGTH from back of neck to bottom of jacket: 17"

MEASUREMENTS for SKIRT: All measurements were taken when article of clothing was laying flat on table.

WAIST: 12 1/4"

HIP: FULL

LENGTH: (measured from back of skirt at the top of the waistband to bottom of hemline) 42"

CONDITION:

ANY WHITE STREAKS YOU SEE ON THE FABRIC IS ACTUALLY LIGHT SNOW COMING DOWN WHEN I WAS PHOTOGRAPHING.

The skirt appears to be in very nice, gently used vintage condition. There are a couple of small tears or holes in the front of skirt, near the hem that have been repaired. I see a repaired area near the bottom that measures 2" long. There are a couple of small worn areas in the fabric, near the bottom, that have not been repaired.

The bottom edge of the skirt is nice and clean. One would think since this is long it might be dirty underneath but it isn't.

I have this pinned in the back because it was too small to fit the mannequin. The hooks all work and are present.

The jacket/blouse displays some wear. In the 10th and 11th photos I tried to show you one arm that has been repaired and the other has a tear that was not repaired. There are a few other areas on the jacket that have been repaired. The waistband in front also displays wear as shown in the last photo. Some of the beading is coming loose.

I think there may be some slight discoloration as associated with age.

All in all I would say this is a very nice early piece.

I hope to have hit the high points, please let me know if you have any questions.

Even though I have disclosed the flaws in this please note that I am selling this in "As is" condition. I think I've found the areas of concern but there may be a few that I have overlooked.

Please LOOK at our other listings. I hope to be listing some Victorian era capes and blouses that I purchased from this sale within the next day or two.

I will always combine shipping.

I didn't know how to price this so I have started it low with a MODEST RESERVE.

Thanks for looking and have fun ebaying.

From Me:

This dress is a lot of fun. It's clearly 1890's but the lady who made it still loved the decadency of the Bustle Era skirts (look at those ruffles!) and most likely learned to sew thirty or forty years earlier. The shoulders on the bodice are more commonly seen on pre-American Civil War era dresses (notice how they slope).

We are happy to combine multiple purchases and save you shipping fees! Please e-mail us with any questions and we will be more than happy to help.

From Me:

Although this might have been worn well up and into the early 1900's, the style suggests a Regency era bodice. The tabs on the back of the bodice were popular in the late 18th/early 19th C. The materials also look 18th C.
