Red Mid Victorian Boots

From the seller:

Victorian High Button Boots, Rare Red Color, 1860s.

Here is a real find in very rare red leather, a pair of high button boots from the late Civil War era, the 1860's. The square toes help date them. They have red glass buttons on each side, and leather soles and heels.

This is part of a collection we recently procured from Carey's Shoe Store, a store that was established in 1919 in Charlevoix, Michigan. The family recently decided to let go of the remaining stock of the store, about 150 pairs, most new and in their original boxes. We will be listing them over the next few months.

Late Victorian Corset

From the seller:

What a find! This 1895 Victorian corset was tight lacers daily routine. The mannequin is not thin enough for this tiny waist. I also had to upholster below to show you the enormus difference between hip and waist size, the so called hip spring. The corset is heavily boned in a delightful cream white cotton, having a total of 20 stays.

Top hem is adorned with a beautiful lace with a pink silk ribbon, the fabric a cream brocade lace with small dots and tiny flowers

The corset was manufactured by the American R&G Royal Worchester corset company, one of the major corset manufacturerer at that time.

The condition is good, except of a broken fabric on the left hip, and below the right bossom as you can see on the pictures There is also some stain on the lower hip.

Measurements: 19 inch . waist, front length 14 in. back length 13 in.

From Me:

Although tight lacing was popular in the 1890's, it was regarded as fade diets are now.

Early Edwardian Summer Dress with Underthings

From the seller:

FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION, this fabulous incredibly preserved wedding ensemble..includes the gorgeous two piece gown lace pearl buttons and lovely train..chemisette with high collar, chemise, petticoat, and silk traditionally marked wedding night gown...see the "something blue" under the arm. All are in excellent condition for age, gown is understandably most fragile condition needing some darning on front bodice..see photos.. MEASURES ARE APPROXIMATE, 32, 22, 36"...GORGEOUS. NO other MAJOR STAINING OR TEARS NOTED. THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST. Please note we cater to conneseurs of fine antique clothing and vintage linens and lingerie world-wide. These are not new items and may have an occasional loose thread or minor repair here and there, faint character spot ir two, but we do our very best to disclose noticed flaws. Items are not returnable unless we have grossly misrepresented the item.

From Me:

I'm not sure where the seller gets the idea that all of this is for a wedding. It looks like a typical lot of any summer to me. None of it suggests a wedding dress at all. Instead, it looks like it's more for a nice summer picnic.

Blue Early Edwardian Dress

From the seller:

Be swept back in time! From my traveling museum collection, which began at age 15, I offer for your consideration:

A lovely light blue silk ensemble consisting of a boned bodice and skirt. The bodice has the traditional pouter- pigeon front of the early 1900's. It has an inner layer of center hooks & eyes and an outer layer which closes down the side with hooks & eyes. The color of the material is exquisite and the delicate detailing at the wrist is so pretty.
There are several problem areas, under both arms, at top of both shoulders and near one elbow the silk is beginning to wear thin (shatter. ) Also there is some brown staining on the inside of the neck piece. The silk flowers at the waist are also wearing and can be removed if desired. This listing only allowed 4 photos to be posted. If you need additional photos of any area please contact me here.

Bodice measures:
12" Across back shoulder to shoulder
15" Length from shoulder to waist

The skirt is lined with cotton & linen and has a velvet dust ruffle. It fastens with hooks & eyes. The skirt also has hooks that fasten in the back to the bodice so that it doesn't ride up. At the top front of the waistline there is a small area where the silk is worn (shattering) otherwise it is in good condition. Skirt is a nice size and measures:

34" Waist
41" Length

This beautiful ensemble can be worn but it needs restoration work of which I am not an expert at doing. I will leave that up to the buyer. It could be used for study to make a pattern for a similar dress or kept for a lovely display. Please ask if you have any more questions before you bid. It comes from a smoke free home. Thank you for looking. :)

From Me:

The waist would indicate this is a plus sized dress.

Bustle Era Outfit

From the seller:

Take a step back in history with this rare exquisite Victorian modish gown from the 1870's.

The bustle look gained favor by 1873 at which time a woman wearing this gown had her hair simply pulled back into a snood, accompanied with elaborate fans and parasols to complete the look.

Full blown short waisted bouffant was the style with draped over skirts embellished with endless trimmings of bows, buttons, ribbons, pleats, and fringe.

The armored effect of the late 1870's Basque bodice (as in this piece) is boned, long waisted, and extremely form fitting.

This item is aged and is expected to have some deterioration and imperfections. The item has aged well and is in exceptional Victorian condition.

Measurements: Skirt: 12.5" double for waist: Lenght 40":

Top: Shoulder to Shoulder 13.5" : In seam (arm) 18.5": Outside of sleeve 21.5": Back 18" : Chest Panel 9" Double:

THE FIRST PICTURE BEST SHOWS THE TRUE COLOR

From me:

The bustle was already being worn by 1873 so I'm not sure what the seller was trying to get at. This is, most likely, 1870's.

Early 1920's Lace Summer Dress

From the seller:

Magnificent Edwardian Antique Flapper Embroidered Net Lace Dress circa early 1900s, this magnificent piece is constructed of a couple of lace, - one being embroidered net lace and the other a darned net lace or Darned Net Filet, color is a lovely honey shade, round neckline - dropped waist and rows and rows of pin-tucks, it has no opening, you will pull over your head, so you must be smaller than measurements to fit into this, the condition is exceptional with no rips or holes, it has some small storage spots and has yellowed or turned a honey color with age- otherwise in the best condition I have ever seen a dress in this age bracket, in my opinion this is museum quality.

Please note - My manniquin is a bust 34" so you must be a 34" or less for this to look right, even though it measures approx a 38", it was designed to hang loose.

Tagged - No tags

Measures approx

Bust - 38"

Waist - 38"

Hips-38"

Length - 42 "

From Me:

I'm guessing about 1922 for this dress. This, of course, would have been worn over a colorful slip.
