This is a place for any extant garments in private collections from about 1941 back. There is no beginning date. The only rule is that it can't be currently in a museum and must be before the bombing of Pearl Harbor. I mostly post items I've seen on ebay, etsy, or other auction sites so we will continue to have a record of them for research purposes. If you have antique clothing in your collection, please, email me pictures of them and I will gladly add them to this site.

Early 20th Century Straw Hat
From the seller:
~ ANTIQUE 1910 EDWARDIAN CHIFFON LADIES HAT ~
RARE
This wonderful completely SEWN Antique 1910 Edwardian PEACH Chiffon hat is so beautiful! It is made of peach chiffon swirled around the crown and tucked with chiffon into an elaborate chiffon floral at the crown. There are diamond shaped chiffon pieces sewn around the straw brim which is a half-moon shape.
The underside is completely lined in chiffon and silk.
There are no labels.
What an incredible piece of history!
This lovely 1910 ANTIQUE HAT would have been a head-turner in its day!
There is some wear to this hat which adds to its authenticity. Some of the peach chiffon is mildly discolored and worn; there is stictching loose around the backside and a wearing of the chiffon in some areas; there is a small spot at the brim; the underside has some wear and discoloring. Otherwise, this hat is in remarkable conditon for its age!
This hat is so incredible and would be a lovely addition to your hat collection or to wear to a Edwardian Tea.
This hat measure 13 inches across.
The inner circumference is approximately 21 inches.
From Me:
Isn't this fabulous?
Early (?) Embroidered Robe
From the seller:
I purchased this about 10 years ago from a lady that told me she once lived in Japan in the 40s and 50s and she got this robe back then. Fabulous embroidered designs in thread and what looks like fine metal chain loops. Edging looks like metal thread tatting as well as between the panels there is this metal thread holding the panels together with a see through between them. She did use this robe. I do see some marks and a little damage like a tack point where metal tatting meets edging came off fabric. Not a lot but it is old and was used so it is not perfect. I did not have this cleaned, will leave that choice up to the new owner. This is a really cool vintage piece! Great for display or lounging.
Due to "Vanity" sizing and vintage clothes not being the same size as today's clothing - always check the measurements.
Please see photos enlarged and consider them part of description.
Clothing can always be altered down or shortened, consider all possibilities for the look that suits you.
Vintage often equals one of a kind - so bid early and don't miss out. With the nature of vintage items there may be issues. I try my best to point them out. Please enlarge photos to evaluate condition for yourself. I do not pre-wash items that I purchase before selling unless noted.
From Me:
I'm not convinced it's from the 1940's or that it's even Japanese. The embroidery looks much earlier - like 1910's. The closest similar garment I can find was destined for India and made in China. And that shirt was made in the 19th C.
1920's (?) Red Dress
From the seller:
A flirty flapper era party dress that's styled on a cranberry color silky ribbed fabric with gorgeous antique lace inserted at the neckline and lays over the bodice ~ wide ruching around the hips ~ a bias flared skirt ~ and a soft cranberry belt with a filigree & rhinestone buckle.
VINTAGE ~~ 1920's
LABEL ~ ~
FABRIC ~ ~~ ~ ribbed silk?
MEASUREMENTS ~ 38 1/2" length, 16 1/2" shoulder to waist, 39" bust, 30" waist (dress is a slip on, no closures), 36" hip, 98" hemsweep.
CONDITION ~ ~~ You can see in the photos that there's a little damage by the arm seams and there's puckering mostly on the skirt that was probably made in storage from the way it was folded, maybe against the buckles on the belt? and should come out when steamed? There's a little stress in the darts at the back of the neckline but they're hidden under the lace and there's three missing rhinestones on the buckle. The fabric is sound and strong.
From Me:
At first, I thought this was early 1990's put in the wrong category until I looked at the close ups. My guess is this is late 1920's (1928, maybe?).
BTW, Happy Leap Day! One of my cubical-mates is 8 years old today. :-)

Titanic Era Dinner Dress
From the seller:
Antique Victorian Satin Lace 1890s Wedding Dress. Very old original Victorian era wedding dress, just delightful and enchanting, made of a satin like material and lace with glass beads and fringe. The condition is fair to good, well over 100 years old, the color looks OK, it is a creamy satin color, there is a tear under the arm, few spots but not many, and there is some fraying in the satin in a couple places, so the condition is Fair to good, more on the fair side. The dress is a nice large size, it looks to be about 7/8, it measures about 58" long and the waist is about 32". Amazing antique dress, not often seen! A must have for your collection! Thanks For Looking!
From Me:
.....Not Victorian. Not 1890's. And most likely not for a wedding. This is a wonderful example of the early teens. Look at that fringe!
