1820's Dress Redone in the late 1830's

 From the seller:
Absolutely beautiful late 1830's gown made of a lovely floral cotton. In good unaltered condition and it was lovingly patched and mended back in the 1830's time period. The cotton on both shoulders was worn away and beautifully stitched down to the lining and presumably worn with a Muslin fichu or worn as a work dress. Hem lined with a contrasting calico fabric and also mended in places. Interesting front treatment. The fabric is still vibrant. It is missing one hook and eye and one hook is a modern replacement. A wonderful display piece. Winning bidder to pay shipping at cost. Please view my other items. I'm helping a long time collector liquidate his estate. Please note international bidders are welcome however I use ebay's international shipping service and I can't ship any other way.

From Me:

The length of the bodice and the overall styling (minus the gathered fitted part of the sleeve) are consistent with late 1820's styles.

1827

The fashion plate above shows a pink gown with a similar bodice. The sleeves were gathered probably about ten years after this dress was first made.
