What to do with Mom's old Scarves

Antique walking suit dates to the Victorian Era, perhaps to the 1880’s-1890’s. It is made of cream wool with a paisley motif woven in. Brown velvet inserts in the center front, at cuffs, on sleeves above elbows, and neckline. Boned bodice has center front hook and eye closure with white pearlized faux buttons, long tapered sleeves with exaggerated shoulders, and back tails. A-line skirt has hook and eye closure and is lined.


CONDITION:


Fair with four tears in the fabric of the bodice, shattering of the silk on the neckline of the bodice and a seam in the right underarm that needs to be repaired. The skirt has some faint staining throughout and moth damage. I would consider the fabric to be very weak and would suggest using this piece for display or inspiration only.

Very much a dress from the 1890's. However, I think this idea would work with saris just as well as with scarves.

1920's Hat

THIS IS THE REAL DEAL - 1920'S CLOCHE. I DO NOT KNOW THE SIZE AS THIS IS ALL HAND MADE, SILK , LINED, HAND BEADED AND HAND STITCHED. THIS ITEM CAME FROM A LOCAL ESTATE SALE WHERE I ACQUIRED SOME GORGEOUS VINTAGE PIECES. THIS IS A RARE FIND. THE HAT IS STILL IN NICE CONDITION AND JUST SCREAMS FLAPPER. THE SILK IS A MUTED SALMON COLOR WITH A PEWTER BEADING AND STITCHING.

Post WWI Dress

Beautiful late 1910s black dress. Dress is made out of a slightly stiff crepe, mock wrap front, there's a silk neck tie that goes around the neck and the tail hangs lower on the one side, slight fitted waist and slight A-line skirt, well-made and well-tailored.

For it's age, this is in great shape! No stains or rips, there's a few minor holes in the skirt but you can only see them if you hold it up to the sunlight, there's a black lace trim around the neck and chest that has came away from the seam, few wrinkles, but other than that, nice shape!

1890's Floral Dress

From the seller:

This beautiful Victorian gown is made from a brocade silk satin with small flowers. It has a cranberry velvet collar trimmed with black jet beads, a velvet belt and velvet on the sleeves. The bodice is lined in silk, with bones in the seams, the lining is shattering and needs to be replaced. Underarms are good, there's wear on the folded edges and on some of the high points of the gathers of the sleeves. The belt is detatched from the bottom edge of the bodice, when you sew it back, it will cover the worn edge around the bottom. It problaby had a panel of lace or tulle in the center front, now all that shows is the taffeta lining. It measures 33 1/2 inches around the bust, waist is 25, across the back shoulder is 10 1/8 inches and it;s 18 inches from shoulder to longest point in center front. The skirt has a new waistband and they put velcro to close it (ugh), the lining is going, 2 of the lining gores are very damaged, the rest are not bad, the ruffle around the bottom of the lining is not good. The brocade overall is fine, but has wear on the fold of some of the seams and a also on the bottom of the hem. It measures about 22 1/2 inches around the waist if you line up the placket, but with the velcro it will go a bit bigger, hips are full and it's 38 1/4 inches long. A beautiful display dress or a fairly easy restore.

1880's Bustle Era Outfit -need to see trim!

This beautiful Victorian gown is made from black silk taffeta. It's very elaborate and is trimmed with bands of satin, braid with large satin flowers and corded centers, clusters of what looks like grapes with tassels at the bottom, appqlied flowers and fringe. The neck and cuffs are trimmed with ivory Brussels lace. The bodice hooks down the front, the left side is 3 deep point that hook across the center. The back is fitted with gores. IT's lined in brown cotton and lightly boned, seams are finished with seam binding. It measures 36 inches around the bust, across the back shoulder is 12 1/4 inches, waist is 26 inches and it's 20 1/2 inches long in front, longer in back. The skirt is amazing looking. Down the right side of the skirt is diagonal rows of trim, it has a ruffle around the bottom trimmed with the black satin flowers , satin ribbon and fringe. The back is pleated and has a huge bow (with trims) to the side of center back approx. calf level. The right side is not as elborate, but has some trimming at the hip. It has a pocket hidden under the flap on the right side. Overall condition is excellent, but the problems are the waistband needs replacing, the inside of the pocket is shot and the fringe trim leaves a trail of strings where ever you take it and there's fringe loss due to that, dust ruffle on the train needs to be removed. The skirt is 28 inches around the waist, hips are full. front is 44 inches and in back is 66 inches long. It's an amazing looking dress, I think you'll love it. De-accessioned from a museum.
