American Civil War Blue Print Dress

From the seller:

This is a wonderful silk striped dress from the civil war era. The pattern is blue horizontal stripes alternating with a browns and beige double patterned stripe. It has dropped shoulders with a lovely navy and rust complimentary fringe trim. The bodice is lined with cotton and has 5 stays in the front .Closure is with an inner cotton tab with hooks and regular eye hooks down the front. The sleeves are pagoda styled and they are lined in tan cotton with the last 5 inches lined in blue silk. The bodice is joined to the skirt with hand sewn cartridge pleating. The skirt is not lined but it does have a 12 inch tan cotton lining at hemline. There is a hidden pocket in one side seam. There is quite alot of hand stitching with some machine in the bodice. The skirt seams appear to be hand sewn.

Measurements: Bust 35 inches, waist 29 inches, length 53inches from shoulder, sleeve length is 22 form the dropped seam and circumference of skirt is approximately 130 inches.

Condition - is excellent for the age. There are 3 areas of splitting of the silk right at the edge of the hem, there is a small area on one tan striped area in skirt with pin holes and 1 pin hole in another spot. I thought I saw a pin hole on one sleeve and have not found it again. The cotton lining at the underarms has light discoloration which does not show on the silk. The skirt lining has discoloration
These areas were only found in holding the silk up to the light and could not be seen when on the form.



It was found in Mass. at a local auction from an estate with other period items including a Doucet partial 2 pc velvet gown.

Blue/Green Bustle Era Dress

VINTAGE ANTIQUE VICTORIAN WOMANS DARK GREEN HANDMADE EVENING GOWN DRESS c1890

Beautiful Victorian era blue evening gown with applied scroll embroidery. 100% original. In nice condition with beautiful applied scroll design on the top and bottom. A few small moth holes that are possibly repairable. Bust is 32, Waist 27. From top to bottom it is 54 long. The top is not completely buttoned in the photo. The dress form I have is slightly too large and I did not want to force it.

To me, it looks blue/green but that might just be the camera. Not an evening gown - most likely a visiting or other day dress- and not 1890's. I think it's 1880's - you can clearly see the bustle.

Very Late Teens/Early 1920's Purple Dress

This is a Lovely Ladies Vintage 1900's, Edwardian era, Red Velvet Dress with stunning Beaded embellishment.

Found out of an estate sale in New York City.

You can easily see the earlier style of closure but the style in the front has the dropped waist. This particular cut of dress was popular after WWI.

Cutest 1920's Nightie!

21" bust, measured flat for a total of 42" circumference at bottom of armholes, length is 54" - approximately. There are a total of fourteen ribbon roses, seven clusters of two. Beautiful satin "Saks Fifth Avenue, N.Y." label sewn into the neckline. This is a gorgeous nightgown. The new owner will be very pleased with the beautiful details of this antique nightgown.

All I can think about is those pockets. They must have had rolled up handkerchiefs in them at some point. This would be delightful in the summer, when the a/c has gone out, and you are sick....because it has pockets!!!!

1920's Beaded and Gold Thread

FLAPPER'S DRESS

This spectacular dress is an amazing example of the flapper fashion from the Roaring 20's

Crafted in the true style of the Art Deco inspired fashions, this dress is crafted in silk chiffon, gold metal thread, and glass beads.

The design of this dress is typical of the period. A narrow strapped shift with a scooped neckline. There is an simple underdress of ecru chiffon and an elaborate overlay in gold metal thread and glass beads.

The neckline and backlinie have been modestly covered with an insert of the ecru chiffon giving the neckline a straight edge.

Around the actual scooped neckline, armholes, and underdress hem is the elaborate beading. The beads include pink, yellow, and black cylinder beads, and 5/8" cut glass bugle beads. On the left side of the neckline is a corsage of lam'e fabric flowers.

The overlay is crafted in a spider web weave of gold thread and incorporates a floral pattern. On top of this are flowers created in outline with gold bullion.

4" above the underdress hem circling the entire hemline are appliques of cabbage roses in various colors peeking out from below the overlay.

Finally, the dress is detailed with two bunches of the gold fabric at the back hip. Attached to this are two squares of the gold fabric attached at one corner to form two "tails" which cascade in points to below the hem of the dress.

There are no closures on this garment. As per the period it is meant to be slipped on over the head.

The dress measures: bust 34", waist 35", hips 36", top of shoulder strap to hem 44", and top of shoulder strap to tip of tail point 56". This dress APPEARS to be a size 4.

This stunning dress is truly a piece of American History. From one of the most exciting periods in fashion and art, this is a garment which exemplifies both. A most important addition to any collection.

This gives me an excellent idea for my next 1920's gown.... I really just love the pink beading at the edges and the cute roses at the hem - all very lovely. Notice also how simple the lines are - even the scarves on the edges are just big squares.
