Gorgeous Edwardian dress well worth restoring.

Condition:

Overall good condition with the following exceptions, underarm netting discolored, one very small area of discoloration on lace, scattered holes and tears on front of dress near hem comprising an irregular area of about 9" X 5", another area of scattered holes approximately 5" X 4.5" on right hip midsection, one irregular area of discoloration on front middle section approximately 3" X 1" at widest/longest, skirt lining likely removed.

I hope everyone is having a wonderful Merry Christmas. This dress is from about 1913/1914 based on the shape. The skirt shouldn't be puffed out quite that much but it is a good example of the era.

Teen's Era UFO Blouse

The metallic lace on this bodice is exquisite with mostly gold showing. Small coppery micro bead trim, gold silk soutache trim, paper thin silk shantung fabric

Shoulder from sleeve to sleeve: 13" (approximately)

Sleeve inseam: 10"

Condition:

Net at bodice top needs to be repaired/replaced. a few very faint small areas of discoloration, some missing hook and eyes on net, some discoloration on lining, especially at underarms.

From Me:

I doubt the fabric is actually shantung - the seller might be referring to the slubbiness of the fabric. It looks like either cotton or linen based on the close up, the natural color, and the fact this isn't a finished piece. All the natural colored fabric and, most likely, most of the lace, if not all of it, would be covered under a sheer chiffon or lace. Those in the early 20th century LOVED to cover up metallic laces with a thin layer of a sheer fabric. You see it all the time.

Turn of the Century Black Lace Dress

1890's Black Lace and Yellow Dinner Gown: This late Victorian gown was created in the 1890's of a soft yellow cotton and black cotton lace in a floral pattern. It has Moire silk ribbon accents. The bust is 32, the waist is 23, the shoulders are 11 and the skirt length is 41 inches. There are some hooks and eyes missing and there is one place on the front dicky where the lace needs repair. The black silk ribbon neckband is splitting. It could be replaced or conserved. The buckle at the front waist is loose. The lining is in good condition and there are no underarm stains. It makes a stunning display. It is quite elegant.

I think this one looks pretty on display but I wouldn't want to wear it. To me, that lace ruff looks itchy. :-)

Late Edwardian Summer Dress

From the seller:
Early C1820 Regency White Embroidered Gossamer Organdy Neoclassican Style Dress

The beautiful embroidery has a wonderful early design. The dress is embroidered down the front, on the sleeves, and on the back of the bodice.

The dress is high waisted, and opens down the back.

It measures 54" long in front and 60" long in back. The waist measures 31".

Condition is good in general. There are repairs and a few wear holes. I have photographed the top front of the skirt which is the most worn.

There is no closure, I expect it had ties. There has been some repair in the waist area, reattaching the skirt in places.

This lovely early dress was found recently here in Maine.

You'd think the machine stitching on the hem would give it away but I guess not. Or the slight pigeon front on the bodice. Or the shape and length of the sleeves...

Late Edwardian Blouse With Embroidery

This stunning bodice has so much detailing it's hard to list everything!

Gorgeous beading throughout. Including copper, silver and gold beads and metallic thread running through silk embroidered surface embroidery.
Black silk chiffon outer layer is wonderfully embroidered with beaded floral motifs. Lace adorns the high collar and cuffs. Under the black outer shell is lovely cream all over lace fabric for a sweet and subtle effect. Between these layers is gold metallic accent lace that adds gentle attention to the figure. Finally the lace is lined with cream silk chiffon. All to a fabulous effect.
(Under the silk cream fabric is a soft cotton inner lining,)

Shoulder from sleeve to sleeve:

Sleeve inseam: 9.5"

Bust: 12"

Waist: 22.5"

Length from collar to waist: 16"

Condition:

Lace shows consistent discoloration at neck and cuffs. Cream silk inner lining is perishing in places. Small tears in black chiffon at waist. Some scattered missing beads. Petersham waist band needs to be resewn.

From Me:

The Edwardians loved putting metallic lace beneath a layer of something sheer like in this blouse. The reason was so that the light would catch the metallic but it wouldn't be obvious at the same time.
