Lovely Ivory Natural Form Ball Gown

1877-82 TRAINED MOIRE SILK BUSTLE 2-PIECE BALL GOWN MUSEUM DE-ACCESSIONED WITH LOVELY LONG TRAIN



This is an attractive ball gown of the 1877-82 period, that a mid to upper class woman would wear. A regal IVORY silk moire 2 PIECE bustled and trained ball gown de-accessioned from the Rochester historical museum in New York state. The gown still retains it's original Museum ID identification catalog tags, sewn inside as well as string tags.

The bodice is lined with ivory silk and still retains all its original front buttons, and has 10 whale bone baleen stays. The bodice's underarms have heavy discoloration and needs to be replaced with gussets. Lace around armhole has detached in many places and has damage. The neck line's pleated organdy is unstable and has many holes and rips. The organdy has a running satin ribbon gathering. Bodice has sewn in tags as well as written on fabric, on inner neckline with museum's catalog idenification numbers.

The skirt has a side pocket and closes by hooks and eyes at the back and gathers with pleats in the back for a nice fall and trained skirt ties in back. The rear puff enhances the outfit nicely. The skirt is lined with a heavy stiff gauze and ties to adjust the bustle effect. The skirt is in very good condition with no repairs, holes or stains. The skirt has sewn in tags as well as written on fabric, on inner waist band with museum's catalog idenification numbers.

BODICE: Bust 34", Waist 21-1/2",
Shoulder to waist 17",
Across shoulder 11-3/4"

SKIRT: Front skirt length 43" Back length 60", waist 21"


Condition: The SKIRT is in very good condition, the BODICE is in fair condition.

A truly grand display dress/gown or for study or for display.

I'm pretty sure this is very late Victorian/early Edwardian. The higher in the back than front waist stay, the very fitted sleeves, the pin tuck at the top of the sleeve, and the pigeon front are all typical of the Turn of the Century era.

Sweet Early 1920's Summer Dress with Embroidery

True Vintage 1920's day dress. Super fine cotton semi sheer fabric with pleats, ruffled collar and floral embroidery both front and back. Measures 15" shoulder to shoulder, 6" sleeve, 40" bust, 34" waist, 48" hips and 41.5" shoulder to hem.

Edwardian White Day Dress

Well, I'm pretty sure most people here will immediately recognize that this is not 1890's. The fitted sleeves and the pigeon front with the embroidery loosely remind me of this dress at the MET although this one is much, much simpler.

Men's Colorful Waistcoat

From the seller:

1870s From France men's silk brocade vest in amazingly vibrant color. The brocade is in vibrant green teal, red blue and green. The buttons have a grape motif on the front and have been colored to match the color of the brocade pattern into which they are placed. By that I meat the top button is tinted red to coincide with the red of the flowers behind it. The second button green and the last three a very deep blue to match the background. The back of the waist coat is a chocolate brown glazed cotton with matching fabric Martingale. Lined in a white fine wool that has many moth holes. A little fraying to threads on the back of the neck. Other than that remarkable condition. Truly museum quality.

The print was just too colorful and crazy to me to look 1870's. Also, the style seemed too long - much more late 1840's/early 1850's.

Young Miss 1860's Ball Gown Bodice

1820s French little girls bodice. The bodice is a beige silk brocade with little peach colored round flowers and green leaves. Pomegranate silk ruffles accent the sleeves the waist and the center front of the bodice. The waist closes up the center back with hooks and eyes and look like they are original. Two stays are set center front and back and are whalebone. Lined in homespun cotton.
CONDITION: VERY GOOD

It's very much 1867/1868. I know the short bodices confuse people but the styling, trims, and the sleeves are all so very 1860's.

I think the measurements make this a young lady's bodice. The trim lines were very popular for most of the 1860's as shown above.

Sexy Black Lace 1920's Dress

Beautiful 1930's asymmetrical black lace dress. Bias cut with beautiful paneling done in the lace.

Large seam separations on the lace, I think could be fixed but not positive. Overall good condition for its age.

So you may have noticed I'm a bit obsessed with 1920's lately. I should be over it with the New Year. I'm making a 1920's dress for a New Year's Eve party which means, whenever I'm doing research for it, I keep finding lovely examples on ebay. :-)
