1830's Bodice

From the seller:

A rare and magnificent 1830’s cotton bodice. The bodice is all hand stitched. The bodice has huge gigot style sleeve. The front bust line has gathered pleating that is outlined with ruffles. The neck, armscyes and shoulders are piped. The inner seam on the sleeve and the sleeve cuffs are also piped. The sleeve cuffs have a hook and eye closure. The bodice is lined with linen and has a brass hook and eye back closure. The bodice is in excellent condition. There are no holes. A wonderful treasure for the serious collector of early garments. Bust 30 Waist 22.

That front is...trying too hard. Sorry, I normally love anything before 1840 but....yeah.

A Dress to Match the Bodices I just posted

This is a charming mulberry print 1890-95 gown. It's unlined, with a lace collar at the neck, the bodice and skirt with no closures. The bodice was meant to fasten slightly to the left of the center placket at the waist area. The waist has an opening to the right of the center, where it was meant to close, as you can see in the closeups. The waistband to the skirt was made from a printed feedsack. The skirt is tightly pleated at most of the back waist, the maker of this country dress such fully intending to follow the fashionable silhouette of the time. There is also a ruffle at the bottom.

One of the largest dresses I have seen, it's 43" around the bust, loosely measured, 14" between the shoulder seams, an astonishing 19 1/2" from the collar seam in back to the waist. The skirt is about 39 1/2" long in front, with a 29" waist.

Fresh out of an estate, the fabric is crisp, but has some storage discoloration at the front placket, bottom back area of the skirt, backside of the left sleeve, few other minor places, which I have shown this in the pics below.

I have 3 bodices from the same fabric also listed, which could be used with the skirt if the present bodice were removed. This could also allow the original bodice to be tucked in, giving a better display on a mannequin or fit on a person. From an early Vermont home.

The lady that made all the bodices and this dress must have gotten an awesome deal on the fabric. Or, her husband/dad/who ever placed the order wrote 30 yards rather than 3.0 yards. :-)

So cool! Same fabric, different shaped bodices from the 1890's

From the seller:

This is a lot of 3 bodices, each in the same mulberry on white print floral pattern. The first has a narrow sleeve with a very interesting detail at the shoulder, where the fabric is caught up at an angle and comes to a pont a little further down. It closes with hooks and thread eyes, a few of these don't seem to work, I can provide a metal set to replace if the buyer wishes. Shirred at the pointed waist in front, it has a 32" bust, 24" waist measurement, measured at the outside. There is some discoloration to the back cotton lining which does not show through to the outside, this is about the size of a fist. There are some small, scattered spots, no holes, splits, weakness in the fabric.

The second bodice is in the same basic style, but with a slightly larger sleeve. All the original buttons have been removed. It has a 32" bust. There is some spotted discoloration here and there, no holes or splits.

The third bodice has a cotton lining which closes with hooks and eyes, no other fasteners. Like the first bodice, it is shirred at the waist, and has a cotton lining. With a lace collar, and just about the largest sleeves I have ever seen, it measures 32" around at the bust, not extended to it's maximum, 26" around at the waist, it's 11 1/2" between the shoulder seams.

There is some light discoloration to the back area, and to the sleeves, a few darker spots to one of the sleeves at the back, which you can see in the side view below. There is a 2 1/2" separation from the narrow cuff at the wrist and the balloon sleeve, but it's not torn.

The fabric on all of these bodices is strong, the color is consistent throughout the 4 garments: the 3 bodices, along with the dress I also have listed.

I love this! The same print, all probably from the same year (a seamstress' workshop?), all in different fashionable styles from the mid to late 1890's!

Titanic Era Shoes!

These shoes have 2" heels & are 10" long from the back of the heels to the tip of the toes.

Why don't we have a lot of shoes like these anymore? Beaded but not to the point it looks obnoxious. Beautifully shaped heels rather than the so high that you are adding a year in the wheelchair for each hour you walk in them heels or those hideous platforms.

1890s (?) Purple Print Bodice

Victorian Civil War Era Floral Stripe Dress Boned Bodice

This bodice is made of shiny cotton with a violet & floral stripe on a white background.

The bodice has fully gathered sleeves on the shoulders and open into a bell shape on the bottom. The bottom of the sleeves needs to be hemmed.

It has a round flat neckline with pin tucks across the chest and comes to a Vee on the bottom with pin tucks going up 2” and has a hook with thread eye closure.

The back is form fitting and also comes to a vee with pin tucks running up 3”.

The under bodice is white cotton lining the sleeves and has boning front, sides and back.

The middle back support bone has an upside-down hook on the bottom.

Measures:

Bust – 36” Waist- 28” Sleeve from shoulder – 27” from underarm – 18” Shoulder – 13” Length from underarm to waist – 7 ¾” Length from neck down back to waist – 16 ½” From front shoulder to waist – 17” Neck – just under - 14”

This is from my collection of over 40 years and fresh to the market.

I do my best to state any flaws with items I sell, but do consider most are used & previously worn vintage before you bid.

Based on the upper part of the sleeves and the insides, this looks more late 1890's/early 1900's to me. The sleeves have a slight puff to them and seem to be missing the cuffs.

Frilly Lace Cap

From the seller:

An extremely pretty 19th century ladies muslin and lace bonnet with original pink ribbon threaded through with a bow each side.

Lots of frills and pleating with various laces. The colour is cream. I can see no evidence that there were ever any ties.

Condition: Very good.

Measurement: 9" from brim edge to crown. This is definately a ladies bonnet, so too large for use on a doll.

I think this is late Victorian if not an early Edwardian. Very feminine! This, of course, was only worn at night.
