This is a place for any extant garments in private collections from about 1941 back. There is no beginning date. The only rule is that it can't be currently in a museum and must be before the bombing of Pearl Harbor. I mostly post items I've seen on ebay, etsy, or other auction sites so we will continue to have a record of them for research purposes. If you have antique clothing in your collection, please, email me pictures of them and I will gladly add them to this site.

1890's Gold Colored Young Miss Outfit
From the seller:
This fabulous example of a late 1890's dress is made from gold silk and is trimmed with narrow (1/4 inch) black velvet ribbon. The skirt is five gore and is lined with tan polished cotton and interlined with crinoline at the bottom 13 inches up from the hem to help it stand out in the fashionable tulip shaped skirts fashionable in the 1890's. A double gathered rushing strip trims the hemline, and three rows of the narrow black velvet ribbon trim the skirt at the top of the interlining (this helps disguise the edge of the interlining). The bodice is fitted and closes in the back with period hook and eye tape. The front comes to a point at the waistline. The bodice has a high neckline with a standing collar and is trimmed with a self fabric ruffle, also trimmed with three rows of narrow black velvet ribbon, applied coming down to a point at the front and back and traveling over the shoulders. The sleeves are very full leading me to date this more between 1892 – 1895 as the sleeves were narrower before and after that time period. These sleeves are gathered twice – once at the top and again around mid bicep. They are gathered at the bottom into a fitted lower sleeve slightly below elbow level. The lower sleeves are trimmed with a pleated ruffle and three rows of black velvet ribbon with small bows. The bodice is lined with tan polished cotton and there are two boning channels, one on each side of the front, but one bone is missing.
Damage: 4 tiny holes on bodice front (see photo), a few pin holes on the bodice ruffle, and a few water marks throughout, both on the bodice front and also the front of the skirt. These might come out if the dress were dry cleaned, but cleaning and/or washing garments this old is always risky. This fabric is not shattering as 19th century silk usually does (it is a ribbed silk slightly heavier than taffeta) so it might hold up, but there are no guarantees. The dress has not been cleaned or washed.
Size: In inches bust 33.5, waist 22.5, hip 35, back width (shoulder to shoulder) 12.5, back length (neck to waist) 13.75, sleeves 24, skirt length (from waist) 37.5

Everything the seller said. :-)
WOW! Pink Early Edwardian Dress
From the seller:
This gown is being sold as is.
This is a gorgeous Victorian mauve dress with silk embroidered flowers, beads, and metallic thread. It has a high neck, netting on the top, long ruched net sleeves, and long train in the back. It feels like silk or a silk blend.
Unfortunately someone tried to alter the back and waist leaving it in need of a lot of restoration (as shown in some of the photos).
The waist needs to be restitched, the whole back where the hooks and eyes were needs repair, seams in the back need stitching, and the band that goes around the waist needs to be repaired.
The skirt has a slit in the front with a piece of grey sheer fabric under it that is deteriorating. The sheer grey fabric also lined the top and that is shattered also. There are holes in the netting, loose seams, loose threads, stains, and missing hooks and eyes.
It is difficult to tell what the measurements are with the back of the dress in such disrepair.
I measured what is there:
Measurements:
bust.....38"
waist.....24"
sleeve.....23"
shoulder to shoulder....21"
neck.....13"
neck to hem (front)....57"
neck to hem (back)...80"
I have described this item to the best of my ability - if you have any questions please ask me before bidding. Please do not bid if you have no intention of buying.
I take Paypal only at this time.
Buyer is to pay all shipping and insurance.
From Me:
Seriously, this is beyond stunning. It doesn't look like it would be difficult to restore this dress. It's not Victorian, but a truly magnificent early Edwardian.

Stunning Colorful Turn of the Century Dress
From the seller:
Phenomenal 1890's Silk Walking Dress: This dress is so beautiful. The color is a deep rust and it is trimmed in amazing black silk. The bodice has a 26 inch waist, and a 34 bust. The skirt has a waist of 26 inches and the length in front is 42. The over-all condition is excellent with two exceptions. There is some wear to the black silk trim on the bodice and there is a 2.5 inch wear spot right next to the waist band that needs reinforcement. It is totally lined in cotton and the under structure is in good condition. The first layer of trim at the bottom of the skirt is fringe. The neck piece has been relined in silk and a beautiful job was done. The label inside reads Bostic of Boston.
From Me:
I'm not sure why she displayed it over a bustle but this lovely early Edwardian looks museum worthy to me!
Pink1920's Dressing Robe!
From the seller:
This auction is for a most exquisite late Edwardian, early flapper vintage piece of lingerie. This is absolutely beautiful work...definite museum quality. This pale pink ruffled top quality silk is beautifully hand embroidered with additions of exceptional lace which has been threaded with silk ribbons. This pretty piece has early snap closure under the loveliest of heavy silk ribbon bows with roses....this is to die for ! Any shading you see or indifference in color is due to my camera and it's flash. I love the typical 1920's Flapper dropped waist with layers of horizontal tucks in back. Each side has been gathered into a rosette...this is ever so charming! This sweet early dressing gown is in near pristine condition. The only flaws to note is some light age spotting right sleeve near the lace and some back ruffle seam stress...see magnified photos below. If you are a serious collector of antique lingerie this is a must see piece. This gorgeous dressing gown measures as follows:
Bust 42 inches
Waist: 42 inches
Hips: 44 inches
Underarm to lower hemline: 38 inches
Underarm to sleeve end: 8 inches
Mid back to lower hemline: 47 inches.
Truly a museum piece of 1900's lingerie !

1870's Black Coat with Red Buttons!
From the seller:
A Beautiful Antique Victorian French Ladies Bustle Half-Mourning Beaded Silk Faille & Lace Overcoat / Coat dated to between 1876-1885 - Medium Size - In excellent condition - requiring only minor repair - Size M/L
Description
This gorgeous overcoat would have been worn in the winter on walks or promenades (it is pitch black and looks much better in reality than I was able to show in the photos -please also ignore some of the wrinkles). The coat has a typical mid-Victorian silhouette. It is of about three-quarter length and has a slight bustle back (please refer to the fashion prints dating to between 1876-1885 below to see how it should be worn, I think it dates to the late 1870s rather than the early 1880s, the cut certainly would suggest so). It would have fitted well over similar shaped walking dress and allowed for the skirt to be generously visible at the bottom (see the last photos for similar coats). The coat is made of black silk faille with black jet beaded appliqués and broad machine-made French or Spanish lace trim on the cuffs, hem, front and back of the coat. The bead appliqués show flowers. The back also has a large bow attached to it at bustle height. The collar has an outer black satin hem and a small pink and black and gold wire thread trim attached to it, as do the cuffs. The coat is slightly tucked in at the waist to achieve the correct silhouette and is lined with dark brown cotton. The coat closes with pink cloth covered buttons on the front. The coat has piped shoulder seams, a small watch pocket on the front left and two large side pockets which have jet bead appliqués attached to them. It is machine and hand sewn. The pink trim and the buttons are original and add a little pop of colour.
The coat is a generous medium size (UK 12-14, EU 40-42, US 10-12) (but please check the measurements below) and its measurements are as follows (measured when lying flat):
Length: ca. 41"
Width at shoulders: 16"
Bust: max. 18.5" (ca. 36-37" all around)
Waist: max. 18" (ca. 36" all around)
Length of Sleeves: 23.5"
Width at hem: ca. 36" (ca. 72" all around)
The coat is in very good condition, but a few minor issues need to be addressed. These are as follows: The main problem are tears at the collar where the coat came into contact with the back of the neck (see photos). The coat has one longer tear on one shoulder and 3 three small one on the other (these are most likely storage related) (see photos). There is minor underarm wear with a small hole and a tiny moth hole under the right arm (see photos). I found two more tiny moth holes on the main body of the coat. There is also a tear in the lace at the hem (see photos) and there is minor wear at the end of the sleeves and to the fabric that covers the buttons (see photos). A few tiny light storage spots may have to be sponged off, but otherwise this lovely coat is in excellent and clean condition. It is sturdy and suitable to be worn.
From Me:
Wow! The red buttons are very cute on this overcoat.
Colorful 1840's Dress
From the seller:
Circa 1840-1850's, a beautiful pattern on this early printed dress...with lovely colors and a sinuous design with undulating lines , flowers and a delicate seaweed forms in the fabric. The design has a TrompeD'oeil effect, a popular theme in fabrics at the time.
Please also see our "About Me" page for updated information.
Item Measurements:
Approx.
Item condition:
In mainly very strong condiiton, but there are areas of damage, mainly on the back part of dress...some stains within lining on bodice..This has a voluminous skirt and so I really think that someone who can repair could make this work out well.Ther eis even more fabric on inner waistline that can be used to repair. In relation to overall strength and unusual pattern..this gown is well worth repairing. The design and pattern is excellent. If buyer wished they can return immediately for refund
From Me:
I just love the print on this dress. The dress is very clearly 1840's with the front pleats on the bodice.
Late 1820's Dress
From the seller:
A circa 1825-1827 mauve and ivory cotton print dress. The fabric has a stripe plaid pattern. There is an ivory rose within the mauve stripe. The bodice has full gigot style sleeves that have ruching at the top. The front of the bodice has fan pleating and the neckline and armscyes are piped. The dress has an empire waistline. The bodice is lined with linen and has a brass hook and eye closure at the back. The skirt is unlined except for a wide band of linen at the edge of the hemline. The dress is all hand stitched. As can be seen in the photos there are age marks and scattered holes in the front of the skirt and on the lower edge of both sleeves. The age spots ranch from tiny pea size to one that is 1½ inches. The holes ranch from tiny pea size to two dime size holes on one sleeve and a 1 inch split on the skirt front. There is no underarm discoloration but there are period mends under both arms. A rare and highly collectible dress. Bust 30 Waist 24 Skirt length 37.
From Me:
I apologize for the lack of pictures - it's my fault. I waited too long to post this one. However, I thought even with this one picture, this dress needs to be added.
