This is a place for any extant garments in private collections from about 1941 back. There is no beginning date. The only rule is that it can't be currently in a museum and must be before the bombing of Pearl Harbor. I mostly post items I've seen on ebay, etsy, or other auction sites so we will continue to have a record of them for research purposes. 1867's CIVIL WAR PLAID SILK GOWN FOR STUDY
From the seller:
Offered for study, and recently de-accessioned from a major New York museum costume collection, with its museum accession numbered tag attached. A fetching 1867’s Civil war era green and blue plaid silk gown. The neck. and armscyes are piped. The gown is lined with brown cotton and has a front button closures. The gown is in fair for study condition. There is no underarm discoloration and many splits in the fabric scattered about. Some buttons have come loose and are in the side pocket. I have tried to photography many of them.
MEASUREMENTS: Bust 32", Waist 36", Length from shoulder to front hem 53", Length from shoulder to back hem 59", Width at hem line 143". A beautiful display gown.
