Turn of the Century Bohemian Dress

From the seller:

A romantic 1890’s pink and black print dress that has recently been de-accessioned from a museum collection. The cataloging tag is attached to the dress. The fabric has a pink rose pattern and black snowflake pattern. The bodice and skirt are lavishly trimmed with inserts of white lace. The bodice has a high neck lace collar and a wide shawl style collar that extends over the top of the sleeves. The sleeves are designed with a wide flounced cuff. The bodice has a front button closure. The bodice and skirt are unlined. The skirt has a long back sweep and a green silk ribbon at the waist. The dress also comes with extra fabric pieces. It is in very good condition. There are no holes or age marks on the fabric. There is no underarm discoloration. There is some light soiling on the back hemline. Bust 32 Waist 24 Front skirt length 39 Back length 49.

I know it's nothing flashy but I am in LOVE with this turn of the Century dress. The lightweight fabric, the lace, the bell sleeves - it looks almost like a modern bohemian fashion interpretation of an Edwardian dress! And yes, it's Edwardian - not 1890's.

Bustle Era Windowpane Bodice

Circa late 1800-1900, a lovely brown silk ladies bodice with sawtooth edging , a fien plaid velevet with matching covered buttons.In very good codnition... a great design and extremly well done.

About 1883 or so. I love these windowpane/cutout bodices!  I wish the seller included more info but oh well.

Late 1890's Bodice/Blouse

An antique Victorian era blouse with lace trims. Two tone in color with brown and black.


Measurements:

Under armpits across chest 19 inches

Collar back to bottom edge 19 inches

Sleeves 24 inches

Some age spotting, tears under armpits, front and in places.

A: I was afraid someone would ask for this kind of specifics. Prefacing my reply with the admission that I am a retired high school wrestling coach, and NOT a seamstress, when I laid it flat on a table and put a tape on it, I got: Bust 15", Waist 12", Waist to bottom 37", Shoulder to waist 15" and Shoulder seam to shoulder seam 16". There is a yardstick in the photo which might help you a little. Sorry to not have more confidence in my measurements, but that's my best shot at it beyond my wife's original guesstimate that it was about a size 4. My wife is now away on vacation, so you're stuck with my having done the best I can. In any case, thanks for your interest.

Late 1890's Poss. Liberty Gown in Yellow

1880 YELLOW WEDDING GOWN




This dress has hooks and eyes up the back of the gown. It is fully lined and the bodice has boning.




I am downsizing, and this is probably the hardest dress to part with. It is in excellent condition for the age.




The bust measures 32" and the back measurement from the shoulder to the bottom edge is 72". The front measurement from the shoulder to the bottom edge is 55".




Photo #4 shows the discoloration.




I have done nothing to this dress.

Let's start with what this is not.

It is not a wedding gown. No woman in her right mind would even consider wearing her tea gown for her wedding dress. It would be like wearing your sweats to your wedding.

It's not 1880's. This tea gown is late 1890's - look up liberty dress 1890's on google and you'll see several more in this style.

The one curious thing about this is that the fabric looks like seersucker at first blush - however seersucker won't be invented until a good 20 or 30 years after this dress was made. In the close ups, it looks more like some sort of brocade that is just very shiny in spots - giving a 3d look.

1880's Brown Velvet Bustle Outfit

ca 1880's Brown Wool / Velvet Bustle Dress / Gown Sm

This lovely 1880's bustle dress is made from brown wool challis and luxurious brown silk velveteen. The jacket is lined in tan and orange striped cotton, it hooks down the front and has a pleated front that covers the closure. There's pleats coming from the waist in center front and fanning out, the seams are trimmed with hand done featherstitching. THe front of the velvet is looks to give the look of a bolero, the velvet front is lined in brown silk. The jacket measures 30 inches around the bust, across the back shoulder is 11 3/4 inches, waist is 23 and from shoulder to center front point is 19 inches long. The skirt is draped across the front, it has 2 panels of velvet on the side trimmed with draped silk cording and dangles. The back of the skirt is tightly pleated in the center and the skirt is lined in cotton. The wool has a few small scattered holes and 2 dangles are missing, but overall excellent. It measures 22 inches around the waist, hips are full and it's 39 1/2 inches long. Excellent vintage condition. It was de-accessioned from a museum and the inventory tags attached.

Turn of the Century Frothy Outfit

a dress that we just got from an attic very old and needs cleaning, the woman or girl who owned it must have been very small, it seems to be in really good condition for its age

It looks like it's early Edwardian. Unfortunately, there really isn't any more information that what I show above. I do love the stripy ruffles on the skirt.
