This is a place for any extant garments in private collections from about 1941 back. There is no beginning date. The only rule is that it can't be currently in a museum and must be before the bombing of Pearl Harbor. I mostly post items I've seen on ebay, etsy, or other auction sites so we will continue to have a record of them for research purposes. If you have antique clothing in your collection, please, email me pictures of them and I will gladly add them to this site.

✂Measurements✂

bust: up to 42"
waist: 34"
hip: 42"
length: 37"
From Me:
It's interesting that there is so much going on on the front and nothing happening on the back. I'm calling this color "nude" since it's the same color as a band-aid which is also called nude despite the fact we all know that no one happens to have that color skin. :-)

1920's Lavender Nautical Dress
From the seller:
This is a darling 1920s sailor dress in an unusual color - lavender, or orchid (so current!). It's actually two pieces - there is an under dress, like a slip dress, and an over blouse. It's made of a medium weight woven cotton fabric. It's embellished with embroidered wool patches. The patches feature nautical themes - a sailor's knot, eagle, anchor & stripes. It's in great condition for it's age. There are only a few imperfections - some light spotting on the front of the skirt, some breaks in the white top stitching thread on the shoulders, and some discoloration under the arms of the under dress. See pictures.
Great for a Downton Abbey theme party!

YAY! 200 members for this blog. Thank you all!
Now, I want to make a dress exactly like this - same color and everything- and call it my purple pirate dress. I'd wear a purple velvet eyepatch too! :-) Oh, come on! It would make the most awesome Downton Abbey/Boardwalk Empire/Insert Favorite 1920's Movie or show here inspired Halloween outfit ever.

For the 1900th post, I give you a lovely 1920's Dress
From the seller:
THE FLAPPER DRESSES FROM THE 1920S THAT ARE IN COLOR ARE RARE. SO MANY OF THEM ARE BLACK. THIS ONE HAS A BEAUTIFUL DESIGN IN LIGHT PURPLE AND BLACK. THE DRESS IS MADE OF ALTERNATING SECTIONS OF LACE EMBELISSHED LAVENDER COLORED SILK AND BLACK LACE SECTIONS. THE CONDITION IS EXCELLENT VINTAGE. PLEASE SEE THE CONDITION REPORT ABOVE. THE DRESS IS A SMALL SIZE. THE MEASUREMENTS TAKEN LAID FLAT ARE: BUST: 17", WAIST 18 1/2", HIPS 24", AND THE LENGTH OF THE DRESS FROM THE NECK TO THE HEMLINE IS 47". THE DRESS COMES WITH IT'S ORIGINAL PURE SILK UNDER DRESS AND A VERY LONG LAVENDER COLORED MATCHING SILK WITH A BLACK SILK CONTRAST. THE SASH/SCARF MEASURES 108" LONG. THE DRESS NEEDS TO BE STEAMED. I DARED NOT TOUCH IT WITH AN IRON. PLEASE E-MAIL ME WITH ANY QUESTIONS.
The black lace at the neckline edges shows a tiny bit of fraying, and there is one separation of the lace from the edge at the side of the neck. I found two "pin holes" very tiny in the purple silk in the body of the dress, one at the back bodice (hard to see) and one tiny one in the bottom 1/3rd of the body (also hard to find). They will never be seen when the dress is worn, and you have to search to find them. There are no pit stains or other stains or rips or tears or any other damage to the dress. The underdress has just a couple of pin holes in the straps which will never be seen. The body of the under dress is fine. The sash has a couple of holes one at one end and one mid way. Some black lace appliques could be put over the holes. It is a very long sash with just the two small pea sized damage spots. There is no snap at the back of the neck to do the dress up
From Me:
I admit I'm hesitant to post this one. It is lovely, and the dress looks very 1920's (check out that back!), but there are so many "remakes" out now that it's sometimes hard to tell.

Cutest 1930's Plaid Dress
From the seller:
This is an NRA label dress which dates it from between 1933 and 1935. It has many issues and blemishes, so please see photos. Holes, heavy staining, loose snaps, and brittle patent leather bow. Belt not included. The cuffs and collar are heavily stained as well as discoloration throughout. Collar could be removed for craft purposes. Just an idea! I've really only seen dresses like this in museum quality, so it would be a great study piece, or repurposed!! The mother of pearl buttons are just the coolest detail!
Measurements taken laying flat: Double for full size in inches where appropriate.
All bust measurements taken pit to pit, and sleeve is taken from shoulder unless otherwise stated.

Condition: Poor. See photos and read all descriptions. Delicate and many blemishes. Vintage items are not meant to look new. This is the alluring quality of shopping vintage items. I will state if the item is in "like new" condition. So, keep in mind there may be signs of normal wear. Please ask if you have any questions.
From Me:
I know several of you are already drooling. Plaid and 1930's, together! Honestly, I love the details on this dress. Somehow, the collar doesn't look ridiculous with that little black bow. Everything on the dress works together well.
1880's Bustle Era Dress
From the seller:
ANTIQUE ORIGINAL 1870's VICTORIAN SILK RIBBON MATERIAL VINTAGE MUSEUM BUSTLE DRESS
The antique clothing and hats, I will be listing over the next month, were recently acquired from the sale of items owned by a Museum in Rochester, NY. I am pleased to have the opportunity to handle these items and offer them for sale.
This dress was too small at the waist to close on my dress form.
A very rare, original, 1870's Victorian Bustle Dress that consists of two separate garments. There is a dress that goes on top of a skirt. The material of the dress has the appearance of silk ribbons woven into silk material. The colors used are baby blue and ivory. It has blue silk ruffles on the sleeves, neck, and hemline. Underneath the blue ruffles is a sheer silk, ruffled, material. There are navy (almost black) velvet bows on the front, sleeves and back. The front closes by 13, lovely, hand crocheted blue buttons (see photo). The top of this dress, to just below the hips, is lined in silk (that is why the top appears lighter then the bottom) and has a strap on the inside that appears to connect at the waist (see photo). There are also stays sewn in the back of the bodice from the waist down about 8". Inside the bottom of the dress (in the back) are several pieces of cord like material that connected to something. The underskirt appears to be made out of an open weave, cotton type, material on top and at the bottom the material is the same as the dress (with ruffles and lace trim). The museum has a tag sewn into the back of the neck of the dress, with a number on it, and they also wrote another number on the lining next to it (see photo, does not show on the outside). I have all the tags that the museum had with this dress and they will be sent with it (one tag has the name of the person who donated it to the museum).
Measurements: As this is a vintage item, we make no guarantees regarding fit. All measurements are approximate, and returns based on individual fit will not be accepted...DRESS MEASUREMENT...Bust: 32" (measurement taken under arms), Waist: 23" around, Shoulders: 14" across, Sleeves: 19" long, Wrist Opening: 10" around, Length in front: 57", Length in back: 66". This dress has a scalloped hemline and it would be very hard to measure the distance around. SKIRT MEASUREMENT...Waist: 23" extended to 26", Length 40" in front, Length in back 60" (roughly).
Condition: This dress is in very good condition. I see no holes or tears to the main material. All of the buttons and bows are still intact. The silk lining in the upper part of the dress, still looks pretty good. The (now off white) ruffled material that is inside the sleeves and neck, has some holes and tears. The underskirt has several holes and tears in the upper part (see photo) but the bottom, that is the same material as the dress, looks good (I see no holes or tears and just minor soiling). For the age and material, it looks great!
This is a gorgeous 1870's example of a woman's fashionable clothing! It will certainly compliment any collection. Being offered as is and with No Reserve.
From Me:
This is just from the end of the natural form- when the bustle made it's come back. The front of the dress is still styled in the way we associate with natural form but the dress and underskirt both, desperately, want a bustle.
