1880's Bustle Era Dress

A fetching 1880’s cinnamon figural silk bustle dress. The fabric has a small dash pattern. The bodice has long tails at the center back. It is lined with cotton and has a front button closure. The skirt is designed with elaborate draping. The front has a draped apron panel and the back has a draped bustled panel. The skirt is lined with cotton. The dress is in very good and sturdy condition. The spots on the first photo are from the camera flash and are not present on the dress. There is slight underarm discoloration mostly to the inside lining. There is a 2 inch period patch mend on one sleeve at the bend of the elbow and a two inch period mend on the inside of one sleeve near the armscyes. A very attractive display dress. Bust 34 Waist 24 Skirt length 43.

War of 1812 Era Regency Dress

From the seller:

There are frills to the neck, sleeves and the hem which has cording as well. The bodice is lined in brown linen, and there are still the linen flaps inside the bodice, which would have closed with a pin. The high waist is beautifully, and tightly gathered at the back.

As with all these apron-fronted dresses it needs to be arranged on a mannequin, which takes time and patience. However, the end result is charming.

There are a few very minor condition issues - a few stitches needed here and there. There is a 2" tear in the front skirt, and a small tear on one sleeve. These faults are not obvious unless looked for, owing to the fairly dark gathered material, and can be conserved easily. I love this dress, as it is so typical of the period, in it's style. If there are any small alterations they are not obvious.

Measurements: Length from shoulder to hem 53". Across shoulder 12". High waist approximately 28" and sleeve length 26"

Very much from the 1811-1815 timeline - probably more towards 1814 by the looks of the V front. It's not an apron front dress, however. It's just a v-neck Regency dress.

Natural Form Velvet Bodice

From the seller:

A regal 1870-1880’s black velvet and floral satin bodice. The fabric is exquisite and has tangerine, blue and yellow satin flowers surrounded by green satin leaves. The bodice has a center back peplum tails. It is lined with cotton and has a front button closure. The bodice is in good condition. There is no underarm discoloration. The sides of the bodice have period done enlargements and two of the button holes have split and will need repair. Bust 36 Waist 32.

Edwardian White Summer Dress

From the seller:

An ornate 1890-1900 white batiste cotton and lace dress. The bodice and skirt are lavishly trimmed with inserts of Val lace. The bodice and skirt are unlined. The bodice has a back button closure. The dress is in good condition. There are scattered small pea size holes and a couple of nickel size holes in the cotton fabric and in the lace inserts. The reserve reflects the flaws. Still makes a pretty display dress. Bust 34 Waist 23 Skirt length 40.

1904 based on the neckline (likely worn with a dickey) and the sleeve style.

late Teen's Era Peachy Dress

From the seller:

This auction is for a late Edwardian or early 1920’s dress made of pink colored silk and metallic lace. I would say that it is best suited to display, repair or salvage of usable materials. There are areas of discoloration as well as small specks of soiling on much of the skirt, and small holes here and there. It still retains one of its metallic tassels at the back ribbon. The styling is unique with the small puffed “panniers” at each side hip. Even with the condition issues, it still makes a lovely display. The measurements are approximate and as follows: Bust 36”, Waist 30“.

Based on the way the silver lace is pieced, I'm guessing this dress has been redone a time or two. Probably 1918 or thereabout.

Very Late 1880's Dress

A stunning 1880’s navy blue silk and navy blue satin brocade bustle dress. The dress appears black in some of the photos. The color shows best in the close up of the bodice. The bodice is designed in the long tunic style. The front of the bodice and the sleeve cuffs are trimmed with the brocade fabric. The brocade fabric has a large floral pattern. The bodice is lined with silk and has a hidden front button closure. The skirt is made of the brocade fabric and the hemline is trimmed with navy blue silk ruffles. The skirt is lined with cotton and has an attached inside lace dust ruffle. The dress is in excellent condition. There is no underarm discoloration and no splits or holes in the fabric. Bust 32 Waist 22 ½ Skirt length 41.

1860's Undersleeves

From the seller:

Very sheet, gauzy cotton sleeves, the wrists with an embroidered, lace trimmed ruffle, an insert with what looks like hand done lace on net. They are entirely hand stitched, the tops are hemmed. They measure about 16 1/2" across, along the curvey side, 8 1/2" at their widest. With some light age spotting in a few places, no holes or weak areas, these are in exceptional condition for their age and delicacy. C.1860.
