This is a place for any extant garments in private collections from about 1941 back. There is no beginning date. The only rule is that it can't be currently in a museum and must be before the bombing of Pearl Harbor. I mostly post items I've seen on ebay, etsy, or other auction sites so we will continue to have a record of them for research purposes. If you have antique clothing in your collection, please, email me pictures of them and I will gladly add them to this site.

From Me:
WANT!!!!!
1850's Ball Gown Bodice
From the seller:
I have a rare corset found in a trunk which was packed in 1860. Front has a 3 inch tear. Great display piece. Fabric feels like raw silk with cotton lining. One hook is missing, also the string used to tie is not there. Some browning and a hole under one arm. This is over 150 yrs old and amazing for its age. I think this is a piece of a wedding attire, since it is off white silk. A very good study piece.
I have several pieces from this trunk , will be listing them tonight.
Thank you
From Me:
Yeah, not a corset. *sigh*
Anyway, this one threw me for a bit. The detailing on the front is very 1850's into the 1860's but the shoulders are very 1840's. However, the lowered shoulders continues into the 1850's and there are a few pieces in various museums that have this exact over all cut that are said to be 1850's so...we're going with 1850's.
Edwardian Summer Blouse
From the seller:
Antique Victorian Handmade Lace Embroidered Sheer Woman's Blouse in Good Used Condition. A little TLC will be required to bring this blouse back to it's original beauty. There are 4 snags, 3 on the front right hand side at the neck and just below the neck and one on the left hand shoulder area-please see pictures. There are a couple of buttons missing in the back. There is a small light brown stain on the back just below the right hand shoulder The blouse measures 16" across the top from top of sleeve to top of sleeve/21" from the top center of the neck don to the bottom/20" across the front from under the arm pit over/sleeves measure 21" long and 4 1/4" wide on the outside. The sleeves are lined. There are no bad odors and the color appears to me to be evenly white with some ivory accents. A very pretty antique blouse.
From Me:
Not Victorian. Notice the way the blouse is gathered in the front to puff out at the waist? Very much an Edwardian style.
Perfect Fall Bustle Era Bodice
From the seller:
Offered for study, an original circa 1880's lady's bronze colored silk taffeta bodice with cut silk velvet floral trim, 13 matching period buttons, lined in silk, with a split swallow tail. A 34" bust, 28" waist, and 18" from shoulder to front hem. In clean as found condition, offered for study, with some surface stress splits at the back and sleeves, some perspiration to the lining, some stress at the buttonholes, and evidence of trim having been at the cuffs. All is reflected in the reserve price for this original Victorian era bodice.
From me:
Wouldn't this be perfect for Thanksgiving?
Bright Blue and Green Bodice for Fancy Dress
From the seller:
This is a gorgeous piece of history, a must see to appreciate. I am believeing the blue is silk. the green is velvet. This has 3 sections of beading. a panel on one side has come unsewn but not torn. Inside is lined and boned. This was found in an old trunked that was packed in 1860, Not sure hold old it was at time of packing. Not perfect but a nice pc for its age.A few small holes, Some fading on velvet as well.
From Me:
The color and the jet beading is consistent with a late 19th C bodice as are the sleeves. I do wish the seller had taken an inside the bodice shot and some measurements but, alas, no. Given the color combo, the skirting, and general look of the bodice, my guess is this is an 1890's fancy dress bodice.

Stunning 1840's Wedding Dress
From the seller:
DESCRIPTION:
We have up for auction an Authentic 1840's Wedding Dress.
We acquired this Dress at an Estate Auction.
It had a card attached to it that read
"Wedding dress of Nancy Pyle who united in Marriage to John Piper in Carslie, PA in 1840.
She was the Mother of the late Katherine Piper of Lacon, IL.
"The card will go with the Dress".
Through our research, we found that John Piper was born in Cumberland County, PA in 1816 & Married Nancy Pyle in 1843. She passed away in 1851 leaving behind 2 Children, Catherine & John.
In 1852, he moved to Lacon, IL.
In 1856 he Married Adda E Eapy
We are not experts on antique clothing, so I will do the
best I can on describing it.
The color of the dress closely resembles a
Light Sage Green.
I do believe the material is Possibly Silk.
It has a V waist Bodice.
It has boning down the center of the V,
it starts about 5" from the neckline to the
bottom of the V.
It has looped fringe around both sleeves &
down the front of the skirt.
The strip (part with the looped fringe down both sides) down the front of the skirt
part, is separately attached.
The bodice is lined, however I am not sure
what kind of material it is.
You can see some of it in our photos showing
the hooks & eyes.
It has a facing around the hem, as
shown in photo above.
The dress measures as follows.
20" across the back of the shoulders.
6 1/2" from neckline to shoulder.
23" from shoulder to end of sleeve.
21" from arm pit to end of sleeve.
The upper sleeve measures about 11" in diameter
The cuff is about 6 3/4" around,
14" from shoulder to waist.
Skirt is about 42" from waist to hem on front & back.
The bust measures about 33".
The waist measures about 27" around.
The bottom of the skirt measures about 100" around.
The dress was too small for my dress form.
We did try to put a hoop skirt under the dress, but
the one I have, was too big.
We learned from a fellow Ebayer that hoop skirts were not used in this time period and that is why it did not fit.
From Me:
I love the details on this wedding dress! The buttons, the fringe on the sleeves, the details on the bodice - it's all amazing.
Lovely 1890's Black Printed Dress
From the seller:
Beautiful antique 2 piece dress or walking suit from the late 1800's.
Jacket is trimmed in elegant lace and has a "boned" bodice.
It closes up the front with 14 hooks and eyes.
The front is slightly "pigeon-breasted" with 2 large, pointed overlays trimmed in black lace netting and beadwork. In a few places on the dress there is also bows used for more trim. There is a standup collar with lace overlay and beadwork. The lace on the collar is showing some wear and discoloration at the top where it would have touched skin. In addition, there is lace netting covering the pink upper bodice and under the large points. The netting has holes in a couple of places on each side.
The sleeves are "leg-o'-mutton" style. The lace trim is loose on the cuffs in a couple of places.
The entire jacket is lined in black polished cotton.
The quality of the workmanship is evident with the seams hand bound and enclosed.
The skirt is also lined in black polished cotton and trimmed on the bottom with velveteen along the hem on the inside. It does have a small train. There may be another layer under the polished cotton has the skirt has some weight to it.
The fabric feels like a cross between silk and cotton. There is a slight sheen to it and it is smooth like silk but slightly heavier weight.
Measurements for the jacket are as follows:
Length: 15 inches
Back length: 21 inches to the point.
Waist: 11-1/2 inches across the front while laying flat.
Chest: 15 inches across the front from underarm to underarm.
Now for the skirt:
There is a train that extends approximately 7 inches or more in the back depending on how you measure it.
Measurements:
Waist (as shown): 12 inches across the front while laying flat
Hips: 23 inches across the front.
Length (in front): 38 inches
The outfit is in overall excellent condition, other than what was mentioned above. I did not find any stains. There are no funny odors.
