This is a place for any extant garments in private collections from about 1941 back. There is no beginning date. The only rule is that it can't be currently in a museum and must be before the bombing of Pearl Harbor. I mostly post items I've seen on ebay, etsy, or other auction sites so we will continue to have a record of them for research purposes. If you have antique clothing in your collection, please, email me pictures of them and I will gladly add them to this site.

Lovely 1890's Black Printed Dress
From the seller:
Beautiful antique 2 piece dress or walking suit from the late 1800's.
Jacket is trimmed in elegant lace and has a "boned" bodice.
It closes up the front with 14 hooks and eyes.
The front is slightly "pigeon-breasted" with 2 large, pointed overlays trimmed in black lace netting and beadwork. In a few places on the dress there is also bows used for more trim. There is a standup collar with lace overlay and beadwork. The lace on the collar is showing some wear and discoloration at the top where it would have touched skin. In addition, there is lace netting covering the pink upper bodice and under the large points. The netting has holes in a couple of places on each side.
The sleeves are "leg-o'-mutton" style. The lace trim is loose on the cuffs in a couple of places.
The entire jacket is lined in black polished cotton.
The quality of the workmanship is evident with the seams hand bound and enclosed.
The skirt is also lined in black polished cotton and trimmed on the bottom with velveteen along the hem on the inside. It does have a small train. There may be another layer under the polished cotton has the skirt has some weight to it.
The fabric feels like a cross between silk and cotton. There is a slight sheen to it and it is smooth like silk but slightly heavier weight.
Measurements for the jacket are as follows:
Length: 15 inches
Back length: 21 inches to the point.
Waist: 11-1/2 inches across the front while laying flat.
Chest: 15 inches across the front from underarm to underarm.
Now for the skirt:
There is a train that extends approximately 7 inches or more in the back depending on how you measure it.
Measurements:
Waist (as shown): 12 inches across the front while laying flat
Hips: 23 inches across the front.
Length (in front): 38 inches
The outfit is in overall excellent condition, other than what was mentioned above. I did not find any stains. There are no funny odors.
