Simple Linen Edwardian Dress

Antique Edwardian day dress in great condition, M

This amazing dress came from an antique clothing store in Soho, Manhattan.
Gorgeous inside and out, this dress has a slender flattering silhouette and charming Edwardian personality. An easy and flattering piece, if your measurements are right, it may become your favorite dress this summer!

Cool and pleasant against the skin, this dress is great for a summer day or evening out.
The fabric is fresh and a bit grainy to the touch.

100% authentic Edwardian antique, you can imagine it in Downton Abby!
Ecru colored with violet/ecru printed trim.
Waisted.
Six decorative buttons in front.
Three working buttons on the back.
Two small pockets in front.
Slit on the skirt back.
Elbow length sleeves.

Condition :

Excellent!
It had a set of hooks on the back (below three buttons), impossible to fasten without another person (maid's) assistance. I asked my seamstress to remove the hooks and insert a hidden zipper (without cutting the material). The new zipper is hidden deep in the fold below the buttons on the back (see photo #19).

I'm beyond floored that anyone would dare to take apart a dress that they have no intention of keeping to put a zipper in. Seriously? What the heck is the seller thinking?!? And I've certainly put a dress with three high hooks or buttons on by myself - it's not impossible at all.

Oh my! Lattice and Lace Blouse/Bodice

1900 Pigeon Breast Lattice Work Bodice: This ball gown bodice is made of black velvet lattice work that covers the upper bosom, shoulders and neck area. The torso of the bodice is covered in a plaid silk of white, black, and blue. The bodice was made in the early 1900's and is sometimes called a Pigeon Breast style blouse. The bodice must have been very striking with a ladies flesh showing through the lattice work. The plaid silk has begun to shatter. The lace is in fair to good condition. The lining is in good shape. The lattice work is in good shape. The bodice would be great for inspiration, design or collection. The bust is 30 and the waist is 24.

From Me:

If Tim Burton ever directs a movie that takes place in the early Edwardian era, this WILL be in it. I can just see the lady that wore this, her Mama complaining about necklines, so...she developed this little beauty! It has a high neckline, see? ;-)

Very cool 1890's silver top

1890's Insane Silver Silk & Embroidered Bodice: This is simply stunning. The bodice is from the 1890's and was made with leg - a - mutton sleeves in the exaggerated style of the 1820's and 30's. It is made of silver silk with gorgeous embroidery. The bust is 34 and the waist is 27. Inside the bodice is pinned a note that states" Mama's gray silk Basque. (waist) The buttons are cut steel with enameling. The bodice has issues. The lining is in great
condition, but the gray silk on the outside is heavily shattering as you can see from the photos. What a dynamic bodice. It came from an Abilene Texas estate. It’s beautiful just to look at.

I really love this one. Elbows of doom! The colors in the details of this bodice are simply breathtaking against the silver.

Late 1890's Lace Top

Beautiful late 1880's Victorian top. Body of the blouse is a thin, creme stain silk which is fitted, outer is a amazing sheer black lace with a stunning design, asymmetrical hook-and-eye front, the back lace is baggy on the lower half of the top and in the sleeves which give it a balloon effect sleeve. There's this little pink sliky "tie" that also is asymmetrical. Stain pleating at the waist, inside is lined in a thin cotton.

For it's age, this is in pretty good shape. There are some breaks in the lace here and there, under the arms the lace needs to be fixed {see pics} a small tear in the lace in the back and a little bit near the cuffs. The inside liner has some stains. It will need some TLC but it's solid.

This is a very cute example of a late 1890's blouse/shirtwaist/whatever you like to call it. Notice the "puffed" upper arms which, almost automatically, make it 1890's. Also, the pigeon front -which is more noticeable at the waist- means late 1890's/early 1900's. A very cute turn of the century blouse!

Up for autions is this incredible women's 1860s plaid silk taffeta corset. The corset is so unsual/rare/wild that it may have belonged to a Courtesan. Overall the corset is in great condition, featuring: pink/green/black plaid silk taffeta fabric with a black silk cage/boning construction, lace trimmed top, cream lining and lace back. The corset is marked a 22 and was photographed on a form that was 32x24x34, with the bust and hips slightly stuffed. The corset is in overall incredible condition for the age with some slight wear on the inside by one of the large front metal stays (as pictured). I did a lot of research determining the age of the corset and went back and fourth a bit, so comments and information are welcomed. One of the lovely ladies over on LiveJournal posted this one a few weeks ago. It looks brand new until you look at the detail pictures. I *think* this is actually 1870's but I keep getting distracted by that print!

19th C Sleeping Bonnet (?)

This bonnet came out of an estate that has been in the family since 1850. It's an amazing old bonnet that's handmade from net and black chantilly lace. There's a couple of breaks in the net threads, not many and very minor , some age spotting and there's some spotting and a few small holes in the ties and the bonnet is a bit dusty/dirty from being in an attic for so long. The opening around the inside is about 22". It's just as I found it, needs to be cleaned but is still in great condition considering it's age. In some of the photos I have a tissue on the inside, helps to show the net. I have another bonnet listed that's very similar and came from the same estate.

I will admit, I suck when it comes to hats. However, this looks too "sexy" to my eye for it to be a "going out of the house" bonnet. It looks like a sleeping cap to me. However, I do know there will be at least one, possibly two, people reading this that want to recreate it NOW.

Teens Era Swimsuit with accessories!

This vintage Edwardian era ladies bathing costume black cotton swimsuit, stockings and shoes date from 1910. Included in the lot is a black lustrous mercerized cotton swimsuit dress with decorative white stitching, an attached sash belt, patch pockets on skirt, sleeveless with underarm discreet panels, shoulder snaps and is missing the bloomers from underneath. The swimsuit dress is loose fitting, measuring 37 inches long, with 42 inch hips, a 36 inch waist and 36 inch bust. There are unworn black mercerized cotton knit thigh high bathing swim stockings socks, measuring 27 inches long, with a 9 1/2 inch long foot. Also included are a pair of black cotton canvas bathing swim shoes ballet slipper style, with white trim piping, lacing and soft canvas bottom soles. The shoes measure 9 1/2 inches long, 2 1/2 inches wide and have two small repair mends on the sides (see close-up). This retro antique ladies "bathing beauty" costume outfit is truly a rare and wonderful find!

OMG! DA SHOES!!!!!!!! I'm thinking this is closer to the later end of the teens era to the point it might have been early 1920's -particularly with those measurements. However, most likely from the mid to late teens era.
