Late 1840's Wedding Gown with Shoes!

From the seller:

This is an extraordinary 1840's gown in a cream silk with dropped shoulders, pleated bodice, and silk fringed sleeves. There are matching shoes that come with it.
The bodice has a bow like pleating with pleated center knot and is stayed. It fastens up the back with hooks and eyes. The dress is completely lined in cotton and appears to be hand sewn. The full skirt trains slightly in the back and fastens at the waist with hook and eye. The shoes are straights - no right or left - and are made from the same silk as the dress. They are adorned with oval pleated silk decorations.
The dress is in very good condition with some minor flaws. There is a small tear on the very bottom front of the skirt ( photo), tiny pink stain also on the bottom of skirt (photo), underarm stains, a pea sized hole near the pink stain, a few pin holes scattered on skirt, and two seam separations - one on the very bottom of the back skirt seam and on the skirt lining. The shoes are in good to fair condition. The silk is starting to shatter in some spots along the bottom where the fabric meets the sole. Both shoes have several tiny holes and the decorations have some "nips" on them.

It measures:
Bodice: ( this dress is a small size as you can tell from the measurements)

bust......28"
waist.....22"

Skirt:
waist..........22"
waist to hem (front).......45"
waist to hem (back).......47"
sleeve.....6" with fringe

Shoes measured on outside of sole....9 1/2" long by 2 1/2" at widest point.

From Me:

This is in surprisingly good condition given the age. I love the shoes!

  1. Gorgeous! I love the details on the bodice and bows on the shoes. It's so nice that these pieces stayed together all these years!
