1780's Men's Waistcoat

From the seller:

DATING TO THE 18TH C

SEWN FULLY BY HAND

FASHIONED OF A SILK GROUND WOVEN WITH SILVER WITH RICH SILVER EMBROIDERY DOWN THE FRONT AND ON THE BOTTOM EDGE AND POCKETS

THE BACKING IS A FULL MORE MODERN REPLACEMENT, AND WAS POORLY DONE, IT IS TOO SMALL AND THE POINTS AT THE HIP NOW CURVE TOWARD THE BACK

THERE IS SOME STAINING UNDER THE ARMS, SOME SPLITTING TO THE FABRIC ATOP THE SHOULDER WITH FRAY ABOVE THE POCKETS AS SEEN

SOLD AS IT WAS FOUND REFLECTIVE OF ITS CONDITION

NOTE THE MEASUREMENTS ARE FOR WHAT THE WAIST IS SUPPOSED TO BE WITH ITS ORIGINAL BACKING

MEASUREMENTS IN INCHES:

CHEST: 40

WAIST: 36

LENGTH: 26

From Me:

The darts at the underarms tripped me up but I think those were added at a later date - when the new backing was added. Probably either late 19th Century or later as it's common for people to have no regard for historical fashion as priceless art. (I swear, if I ever have $$$ I'm going to wear a Monet around my neck to some fancy party just to show how dumb it is to wear antique clothing)

The way the hem is styled and the length of the waistcoat mean this was probably originally made some time in the 1780's.
