DATING TO THE VICTORIAN 1880’S

A RICH ROMANTIC CONFECTION OF LAVENDER AND PINK SILK WITH A FLORAL PRINT SILK BENGALINE ON AN IVORY GROUND

HOOKS CLOSED DOWN THE FRONT WITH VALENCIENNES LACE WIDE RUFFLES TRIMMING IN FLAMMISH FOLD DOWN THE CLOSURE, SEPARATING TO EACH SIDE OF THE PINK SILK AND TRAVELING FULLY DOWN

THE SLEEVES ARE IN LAYERS OF MATCHING LACE

REAR IN BUSTLE BACK FASHION, THE REAR NECKLINE IS TRIMMED IN LONG CASCADING SILK RIBBONS

THE REAR RIBBONS HAVE SMALL STAINING AND DARKENEING THROUGHOUT, THERE ARE SEVERAL SMALL POINT STAINS ON THE SLEEVES PINHEAD IN SIDE, THE PINK CENTER BOTTOM PANEL HAS SOME SMALL SPATTER OF BROWN STAINING AS PICTURED

THE COLLAR HAS A MILD SOILING

STRONG AND FULLY WEARABLE, IN VERY CLEAN CONDITION, A MOST ROMANTIC VICTORIAN PIECE IN BEAUTIFUL BRIGHT COLORINGS AND FLORALS

The more I look at this, the more I'm convinced that it's from the late 1880's/early 1890's. The sleeves aren't fitted - which was a thing right before the Leg O Mutton as well as after. The construction - particularly the back- is consistent with late 1880's fashions. An August 1889 fashion plate
