This is a place for any extant garments in private collections from about 1941 back. There is no beginning date. The only rule is that it can't be currently in a museum and must be before the bombing of Pearl Harbor. I mostly post items I've seen on ebay, etsy, or other auction sites so we will continue to have a record of them for research purposes. If you have antique clothing in your collection, please, email me pictures of them and I will gladly add them to this site.

American Civil War Era Purple Plaid Dress (of Porcupine Peak!)
From the seller:
Stunning antique Victorian day dress dating from the 1860s in great condition. Composed of a fabulous green, purple and cream colored plaid on a silk taffeta with an opalescent sheen. Lavender bows at either sleeve with black Chantilly lace trim at both cuffs. Lined inside in a brown silk. Bodice and skirt are sewn together at back, and dress secures down front with a series of brass hook and eye closures. Some closures may be loose or missing, including at least one closure at the waist (skirt is pinned in photos).
Dress is in great antique condition with some flaws as photographed. Some areas of wearing or tear in the silk, especially at armpits. Some under arm discoloration. Some tearing in inside liner. Please see photos for condition and details and message with any questions.
Approximate measurements:
Bust: 36"
Waist: 30"
Length: 56"
Sleeve length: 17"
From Me:
Most likely right before or just at the start of the American Civil War - 1861/1862. That bow detail is just too cute. I'm sure there was more trim to the dress - and buttons- that have been repurposed over the years. This would be a great Mardi Gras gown...
