This is a place for any extant garments in private collections from about 1941 back. There is no beginning date. The only rule is that it can't be currently in a museum and must be before the bombing of Pearl Harbor. I mostly post items I've seen on ebay, etsy, or other auction sites so we will continue to have a record of them for research purposes. If you have antique clothing in your collection, please, email me pictures of them and I will gladly add them to this site.

Early Bustle Era Petticoat
From the seller:
WONDERFUL 1860 CIVIL WAR VOLUMINOUS PETTICOAT WITH PIN TUCKS + LONG BACK TRAIN
Voluminous 1860's Civil War period ladies cotton petticoat with many rows of pin tucks. Machine sewn.
Wonderful long train. Written in Indian ink is the original 1860's owner's name.
The bottom flounce is decorated with rows of pin tucks and gathered ruffles.
Cartilage pleating in rear of petticoat and petticoat has a button closure at back.
Condition very good. With a small tears below waist band, and with few small size storage/age related spots, no repairs. Waist band is not adjustable but has two sewn on strings to adjust. These are not original to petticoat.
Rarely used, Fairly clean, I have not soaked this petticoat. Could use a good soaking to refresh.
MEASUREMENT
Waist 23-1/2", Length in back 63-1/2",
Length in front 41".
A great addition to one's collection.
From Me:
Given the width at the bottom and how badly it needs a bustle to look proper, I'm saying late 1860's/early 1870's and I'm leaning more to the early 1870's.
