Black Floral 1890's Dress

From the seller:

Here is a beautiful original silk 2 pc day dress from the Victorian Era.. Bodice ,jacket is boned and has hook and eyes to close all the way up to the collar.. In perfect shape just the cuffs have been opened at the seem.. not sure why.. Skirt is plain , but a double small ruffle at the bottom of the skirt.. This dress is in extremely good wearable condition..
No rips or tears seen.. No smells.. Clean

Bust 26 1/2"
Waist 27"
Base of neck down to bottom of jacket 18" (excluding collar)
under arm to end cuff 17"

From Me:

I love the peek a boo red hints on this dress. It's just enough to give it a dash of color. However, there is no such thing as "wearable condition" with a 120+ year old dress. Sorry, but no.

Based on the sleeve size and the trimming on the bodice, I believe this to be from 1897~.

  1. Do you know what I love about your blog? You show so many outfits and I can see what fabric designs were used in the different time periods, so I can educate my eye in what to buy. This shows me my brown fabric with scattered dots will work for late 1890s.

    1. Thank you! I've seen what looks like modern polka dots in the early 17th century. It's always surprising to see what we think of as modern and seeing that it's not.
