1890's Evening Gown

From the seller:

An elegant 1890’s printed gold silk and brown crushed velvet evening dress that was once worn by Amanda Evelyn Brower who was married to Thomas B, Hewitt of North Stonington, CT. Their names appeared on the Long Island Social Registry. The label reads M & L Lengham 239 East 31st St. New York. The crushed brown velvet has shading because of the type of fabric and is not discolored. The yellow silk has a small floral and figural pattern. The bodice has leg of mutton styles sleeves. The square cut neckline and waist are trimmed with crushed velvet. The bodice is lined with cotton and has a front hook and eye closure. The skirt hemline is trimmed with crushed velvet. The skirt is fully lined with cotton. The dress is in very good and sturdy condition. There are no splits in the fabrics. There is a small are of light underarm discoloration and a 2 inch age mark within the gathering on the back skirt area. There are a few other tiny age spots that are barely worth a mention. Bust 30 Waist 23 Skirt length 40.

The sleeves aren't has huge as they'll get and the lack of a pigeon front indicates the earlier part of decade rather than the latter.

  1. I love this. I haven't seen a whole lot of square necklines on 1890s dresses, but it works really well here with the half length sleeves.
