Cream Colored 1840's Dress

From the seller:

true vintage. made in 1830. I just bought this dress, but there is a family tragedy and I need money VERY badly.
bodice measurements are B-30 W-23
skirt measurements are W-26

the seams that are separated, I haven't sewn them closed, but like the original description says, it's an easy fix. I was really looking forward to wearing this next spring, but family comes first.

pure silk. has age spots and some shredding, but in pretty good shape for a 184 year old dress. long baleen whale bone boning in bodice. original hook and eye closures. I really don't want to sell my true vintage clothes, but I have no choice.

original description. it's a greyish mint green. the bodice waist fabric is 25 inches, but only 23 inches at the hook and eye closure.

An exceptional late 1830's to 1840 lady's two piece dress. all hand sewn.

A two part back with original hook and eye closure. Stayed inside at the back and sides with long baleen whale bone. The bodice has 3 stays.

The bodice has a low round neckline and piped at the drop shoulders, front center, and on tiered sleeves The lining of the bodice has a front center point. The long slender fitted arms are shown extended with three tucks at the elbows and has a 1-3/4" tear at elbow and staining. Trimmed with two tiered construction of the upper sleeves. Bodice still retains its original catalog identification tag. Neck line binding has detached, and needs to be attached. Underarm discoloration stains and shredding on one armscyes. Some staining on front of bodice

The natural waistline is fully gathered with cartilage pleating and all hand sewn and lined at hemline with polished light brown cotton. Skirt has one pocket and a seam that has opened up, an easy fix.

In fair, presentable condition with a 1 1/4" "L" shaped handsewn mended tear to the hemline, a few pin dot holes. Indian ink museum id number on the waistband.

BODICE: The measurements of bodice at bustline= 30", shoulders across back = 15", bodice waistline = 25", sleeve length 21"

SKIRT: waistline is 26". Waist to hemline is 29-1/2" in front of the skirt.

The skirt is in very good condition.
The fabric is rich and supple.

A superb hard to come by dress of 180+ years of graceful life.

This is a wonderful piece to add to an early collection.

From Me:

Before I say anything, let me point out something visually-

The fashion plate on the left is from 1831. The one on the right is from 1841. Which fashion plate does this dress most look like?

End of story.
