This is a place for any extant garments in private collections from about 1941 back. There is no beginning date. The only rule is that it can't be currently in a museum and must be before the bombing of Pearl Harbor. I mostly post items I've seen on ebay, etsy, or other auction sites so we will continue to have a record of them for research purposes. If you have antique clothing in your collection, please, email me pictures of them and I will gladly add them to this site.

Two Dresses that aren't quite what they appear to be
From the seller and here too:
Up for auction is this incredible 1900s work dress. The two chambrays in the dress are certainly 1890s-1900s, one a classic blue and the skirt a blue and white stripe. The dress features a laced front, yolked waist, dirndl skirt, belt set into the waist side seams that ties at the back, tulip/puff sleeve. Its not as easy to find old women's work wear, as mens, so this is quite a unique dress. The dress was a work dress, so there are some period repairs throughout and some storage or period marks. That being said, it really only adds to the look of the piece and the dress is structurally sound and wearable. This dress was found with another one in brown chambray, please check out my other auctions to see.
Please check out my other auctions for more antique clothing and accessories.
Measurements:
Bust: 34-36 inches
Waist: 28 Inches - This without the front laced up or the belt tied, so you can get the waist quite small
Hips: 40+ inches
Length: 38 inches
Fabric: Chambray
Label: N/A

From Me:
Clearly, nearly are from the 1890's. They look vaguely 1930's. Except they aren't. I *think* these might be from a fairly recent Sound of Music costume sale. Or they made be from the original Broadway play. I haven't found pictures of these exact dresses in the movie version so I'm thinking they are more from a play version. Also, the added gussets in the waist and the lacings would make a lot of sense for a play - multiple actresses could wear the dresses. Since the first play was in the 1959, I feel pretty safe putting these in the 1960's. Although not the normal thing you'd see here, I thought they might be of interest.
