This is a place for any extant garments in private collections from about 1941 back. There is no beginning date. The only rule is that it can't be currently in a museum and must be before the bombing of Pearl Harbor. I mostly post items I've seen on ebay, etsy, or other auction sites so we will continue to have a record of them for research purposes. 1780's Frock Coat

ANTIQUE REDINGOTE - ca 1790
Changeable silk "gorge de pigeon".

I know, not much to go off of. For a similar cut, check out the fashion plate from 1787 on Mimic of Modes.
You can see the hand stitched collar, and the piecing in the lining of this Frock Coat. It's not a riding coat but probably was some gentleman's Sunday best.
