This is a place for any extant garments in private collections from about 1941 back. There is no beginning date. The only rule is that it can't be currently in a museum and must be before the bombing of Pearl Harbor. I mostly post items I've seen on ebay, etsy, or other auction sites so we will continue to have a record of them for research purposes. If you have antique clothing in your collection, please, email me pictures of them and I will gladly add them to this site.

1920's Black Beaded Overdress
From the seller:
AN AMAZING AUTHENTIC 1920'S DRESS...IN EXCEPTIONAL MUSEUM QUALITY CONDTION! AND, IN A RARE LARGE SIZE. NO LABELS. MADE OF A FINE BLACK TULLE ADORNED WITH BLACK BEADS AND SEQUINS. V NECK FRONT AND BACK. CONNECTED ON SIDE, ONE SIDE HAS TINY SNAPS. OTHER SIDE IS LEFT OPEN WHICH MOST LIKELY HAD SNAPS AS WELL. EASY TO REPLACE. YOU SIMPLY HAVE TO SEE THIS DRESS IN PERSON TO REALLY APPRECIATE THE BEAUTY!!!
APPROX MEAS-LYING FLAT ACROSS FRONT-20" BUST, (WILL STRETCH TO 22".), FREE WAIST AND HIPS AND IS 48" LONG SHOULDER TO BEADED HEM. HAS 2 BLACK SILK SASHES ON EITHER SIDE. THESE PIECES HANG DOWN ABOUT 12" LONGER.
FLAWS-THERE IS A HOLE AT BOTH FRONT AND BACK "V" (SEE LAST 2 PICS), SOME SCATTERED TINY HOLES, NOTHING LARGER THAN 1/8". I FOUND NO MISSING BEADS, HOWEVER THERE MAY BE VERY MINIMAL LOSS. ON A SCALE FROM 1 TO 10, I GIVE THIS DRESS A SOLID "9". WITH CARE, THIS DRESS IS DEFINITELY WEARABLE!!!
From Me:
There is no such thing as a wearable 90+ year old gown. Sorry.
This is one of my favorite type of styles from the 1920's - I love the open sides with the "scarf" like additions on either side of the skirt.
Also, hopefully, this post will start showing up on all the other feeds. I *think* the problem with the custom domain is fixed. We'll see. For some of you, that means quite a few posts over the past week will be new. :-)
