This is a place for any extant garments in private collections from about 1941 back. There is no beginning date. The only rule is that it can't be currently in a museum and must be before the bombing of Pearl Harbor. I mostly post items I've seen on ebay, etsy, or other auction sites so we will continue to have a record of them for research purposes. If you have antique clothing in your collection, please, email me pictures of them and I will gladly add them to this site.

Fabulous 1890's Fall Dress
From the seller:
A fetching 1895 light burgundy wool and dark burgundy velvet once piece dress. The bodice has full leg of mutton styled sleeves and a front insert of velvet that extends from the neckline to the edge of the skirt hemline. The shoulders and sleeve cuffs are trimmed with wool rosettes. The back of the dress has a free flowing attachment that is trimmed with a large velvet bow. The dress is lined with cotton and has a hidden front button closure. The dress is in very good condition. There are a few tiny scattered moth nips in the wool fabric and very light underarm discoloration. There is a two inch circle age mark on the back attachment and the lining has a 5 inch split and a 7 inch old period mend. (See last photo.) Bust 32 Waist 26 Length from shoulder to hemline 56 inches.
From Me:
Isn't this just the perfect autumn dress?

Oh, yes! I love it, even if it does look bright orange on my screen.
ReplyDeleteOn my screen, it looks like an autumn orange (leaf color) with burgundy velvet. It might just be the flash.
