1920's Summer Party Dress

From the seller:

Spring green silk beaded flapper dress dating to the 1920. Charming twinkling design with contrasting peach floral appliques that are also embroidered. Side streamers with layers of skirting each layer beaded in the twinkling gold beads, interesting godot insertion sides and back of skirt. As found! with both arm pits damaged (see images) scattered age/storage marks. Uncleaned as found, beautiful beading "made in France" label. Chest measures 38", hips 42" length 43".

From Me:

This looks lemony yellow on my computer screen. Very much 1920's though.

  1. Found a dress you might be interested in for the site. Its lining isn't original, but the beadwork is fabulous: https://www.etsy.com/listing/154491728/r-e-s-e-r-v-e-d-vintage-1920s-dress-20s

    1. The dress isn't original either, unfortunately. The absolute earliest I'd put it at is the 1960's. You can tell from the length and the neckline. Although some early 1920's dresses were long, they also tended to flow towards the back still or had some sort of flared skirt. The later tabard or sheath dresses were pretty much modern cocktail length. The neckline on almost all 1920's dresses is rounded - very very rarely is it squared. Even when it is, there is still some roundness to the front and back openings. Here is a 1960's dress with the same neckline and length for comparison: https://www.1stdibs.com/fashion/clothing/evening-dresses/1960s-french-hand-bead-rhinestone-net-gown/id-v_166490/

I wouldn't be surprised if the black net dress was as new as the 1990's/early 2000's though.
