Summer Skirt and Petticoat, Turn of the Century

From the seller:

I am pleased to list this lovely linen skirt and petticoat from the late 1800’s.

The skirts of this time period were plain except for some light trimming.

This skirt is trimmed with a ruffled golden cream silk ribbon

The skirt is smooth in the front and sides with pleating and fullness in the back

which creates the sweeping train.

Skirt:

Narrow waistband (1/2”)

Back closure, double hook and eyes (in tandem) one hook needs to be re attached

Front length 41”

Waist a snug 22”

Back length 53”

Circumference 192”

Petticoat:

The petticoat is attached to the skirt in the front only

Front length 40”

Back length 45”

Circumference 104”

The petticoat has a ruffled hem line.

The skirt and slip are in amazing condition, A few seams have opened but that would be a quick fix. There are some spots (see photos).

From Me:

I think this is 1900's rather than 1890's - partly due to the trim placement. And with a skirt that sheer, you'd want an attached petticoat. Even today! Or else, you'll end up like those ladies I see every summer down in DC - whom I'm constantly tempted to go up to and tell them the color of their underwear. ;-)
