This is a place for any extant garments in private collections from about 1941 back. There is no beginning date. The only rule is that it can't be currently in a museum and must be before the bombing of Pearl Harbor. I mostly post items I've seen on ebay, etsy, or other auction sites so we will continue to have a record of them for research purposes. If you have antique clothing in your collection, please, email me pictures of them and I will gladly add them to this site.

Titanic Era Dinner Gown
From the seller:
A fabulous antique Edwardian Era ivory silk charmeuse wedding or evening gown which has a beautiful overlay dress of net tambour lace and wide beaded bands on both the silk & lace. Short lace sleeves have beaded band at ends and wide beading is also present on under dress of silk at shoulders and across the bodice edge. Wide beading band present on lace dress bottom edge with the silk charmeuse flowing out longer beneath for a dramatic look. Bodice has boning structure, see pics. Hook & eye (original old large size) closure down the back; as you can see my mannequin is too broad for the dress through the back.
Lace has a pretty applique fabric leaves & delicate applique flower blossom detail. 3-1/2" wide beaded band has a fab large faux baroque pearl in the center of the repeating pattern, white glass beads & faux pearls fil out the design. Some beads missing, some pearls missing in the single row at bodice bottom edge, some errant threads from beadwork; none of these however a major issue & something a person can repair by hand if desired.
This dress needs to be gently & carefully cleaned, it has surface soiling but no real stains to speak of. It is also wrinkled from decades of storage. There are a few little holes in the net lace scattered about- very minimal & in the back by the closure there are 3 large spots of net loss- I think you might find some net very close in color & hand repair those spots so they are not readily noticed.
Some hand repairs needed in spots to attach lace to shoulder or neck edge, etc.
Silk charmeuse is an ivory color which again will brighten once cleaned, the lace overlay is an ecru. Prettier in hand than in pics.
Shown on a small size antique mannequin. Gown is handmade & no size present. Pls. use measurements below, not returnable due to size.
Approx. measurements:
Pit to pit of silk dress 17-1/2" taken flat
Bodice bottom edge at seamline 13-1/2" taken flat
Hips on bias silk dress 17-1/2" - 18" taken flat
Neck at shoulder to end of sleeve length 15" not includ., 5" beaded cuff taken flat
Length from neck at shoulder to bottom 52"-of course silk is cut on bias so hips will shorten that length possibly. There is some hem length to turn down if you need a bit longer-this length appears to be shortened from the original length.
Sweep around complete bottom edge almost 120"
It's a very special gown & with some hand repairs & a careful cleaning it can have a whole new 21st C life. Could be a gorgeous romantic wedding gown.
Selling as is.
