This is a place for any extant garments in private collections from about 1941 back. There is no beginning date. The only rule is that it can't be currently in a museum and must be before the bombing of Pearl Harbor. I mostly post items I've seen on ebay, etsy, or other auction sites so we will continue to have a record of them for research purposes. If you have antique clothing in your collection, please, email me pictures of them and I will gladly add them to this site.

Late 18th Century Men's Waistcoat
From the seller:
This cream colored vest or waistcoat is a superb hand made and hand embroidered silk item. I believe circa 1840 to 1890, but I am not a vintage clothing expert. It does not have any tags and I believe was a one off creation, so has never had tags.
It belonged to a wealthy family in the UK, so I assume it is English or French in origin.
It can be worn either by a lady, medium to large or a medium to large man. The condition and detailing is exceptional. It could use a clean on the inner silk lining and collar. There are no tears, holes or signs of wear, and as you can see from the rich coloring, it has been stored in a dark closet. The lining has some mild staining (see pics).
See pics for detail, buttons, pockets etcetera.
The back measures 24" from the top center of the collar to the base at the back. The waist at the lowest buttton can be adjusted with the ties from 37" to 42".
This item is truly unique for fancy dress, a wedding or any event where you would like to very stand out from the crowd. It looks great over a dark or light color top with skirt or pants.
Note: This item is accurately described, however it is vintage, not new.
From Me:
This is so 18th Century it screams it! What a wonderful find and in such awesome condition. If I wasn't going to Dress U and Ireland this year, I probably would have bought it. Silly priorities and all that!
My guess is about 1780's but it could be 1770's as well. The embroidery on it is just scrumptious!
