This is a place for any extant garments in private collections from about 1941 back. There is no beginning date. The only rule is that it can't be currently in a museum and must be before the bombing of Pearl Harbor. I mostly post items I've seen on ebay, etsy, or other auction sites so we will continue to have a record of them for research purposes. If you have antique clothing in your collection, please, email me pictures of them and I will gladly add them to this site.

Late 20's/Early 30's Hand Painted Dress
From the seller:
This is an authentic 1920's long sleeve DAY DRESS.
It is hand painted with red roses and green leaves on NAVY Blue silk chiffon. The paint is faded and has left a few small holes ( these could be re-inforced with extra fabric or it could be sewn to an under slip).
This is sold as-is, you will need to do a bit of work. I remember hand washing it at one point, but not ironing it.
The bust is 40" when I pull the fabric ( but, it will look good on a smaller frame).
The shoulders are 15" from seam to seam.
I show the worst place that needs sewing; along the hip line there are holes where the pleats are. In second to last photo there is one of the bigger holes ( the rest are smaller). The red silk hem is frayed and the ends of wrist need finishing.
This would be great for a costume for a 1920's or 1930's film or play.
From Me:
I almost want to put this around 1931 but it could also be as early as 1928. I just love the roses painted onto the silk!
