Early Edwardian Fine Silk Dress













From the seller:

DATING TO THE EARLY EDWARDIAN ERA, FASHIONED OF A PAPER THIN SILK DE CHINE




THE SKIRTING FLOWS MASSIVE AND FULL, PLEATS AROUND WITH BOTTOM PLEATS TRIMMED IN BLONDE SILK VELVET RIBBON, HAND MADE LACE ROUND INSERTED AT POINTS THROUGHOUT




THE BODICE IS IN MATCHING FORM, PINGEON FRONT WITH HAND LACE TRIMMING ITS FULL TOP AND HIGH COLLAR, RICH RUFFLED SLEEVES WITH LACE TRIMS, CLOSES IN THE REAR WITH HOOKS




SOLD AS IT WAS FOUND. THE INNER LINING IS HEAVILY DAMAGED AND PARTS ARE ABSENT. ONE TEAR AT THE SIDE UNDER THE ARM, REPAIRS WERE TAKEN TO THE EDGE ARM HOLES. VELVET BELTING OF THE BODICE SHOWS WASHED WEAR. THE SKIRT HAS SEEN HEAVY STRETCHING AT THE WAISTLINE PLEATS AS PICTURED, SOME SMALL HOLES TO THE SKIRTING, THE BOTTOM SIDE HAS TWO EDGE TEARS AS PICTURED.

This must have been quite the dress in its day. I really don't think it can be restored - the silk looks pretty shattered- but it could make a very nice display piece.
