This is a place for any extant garments in private collections from about 1941 back. There is no beginning date. The only rule is that it can't be currently in a museum and must be before the bombing of Pearl Harbor. I mostly post items I've seen on ebay, etsy, or other auction sites so we will continue to have a record of them for research purposes. If you have antique clothing in your collection, please, email me pictures of them and I will gladly add them to this site.

Late Teen's Era Black Evening Dress
From the seller:
ONE OF A KIND... EARLY 1900's GLASS BEAD & SEQUIN LONG DRESS-COAT WITH GATHERED SIDE POCKETS.
This auction is for an early 1900's (Edwardian) long coat/dress, in excellent condition considering its age. There are two tear on the back right shoulder (one is completely on the seam) - see the photos for a close up. Other then the two tears, there are likely some other very minor issues but nothing that we would consider a major flaw. A great piece for a collector or museum.
Approximate Measurements: Chest (armpit to armpit laying flat) 20" (x2); shoulder to shoulder seam across back 14"; outside sleeve length 9"; down center back from collar seam to bottom edge, 51". All of our measurements are taken on the outside of the garment while it is lying flat. Since we are not professional seamstresses and since everyone measures differently, all of our measurements are approximate.
From Me:
The drop waist and the fact it fits a living person without a corset is evidence that it's post WWI. (You really REALLY shouldn't do that. Particularly without a chemise on even if it's just for the camera. The oils and sweat from the human body will cause the fabric to deteriorate faster) The length and the trim placement both look pre-1920's. So, about 1918/1919.
