This is a place for any extant garments in private collections from about 1941 back. There is no beginning date. The only rule is that it can't be currently in a museum and must be before the bombing of Pearl Harbor. I mostly post items I've seen on ebay, etsy, or other auction sites so we will continue to have a record of them for research purposes. If you have antique clothing in your collection, please, email me pictures of them and I will gladly add them to this site.

Mid 1860's Bodice
From the seller:
This is a bodice from the 1850s - 1860s made of a very fine black silk damask with small 2 tone pink flowers. It has dropped shoulders and long fitted sleeves. It is lined inside with tan cotton and it has alot of hand sewing. I see machine sewing on the front darts and short side seams. There are 3 darts on each side in front and only 2 have pieces of the stays inside. Front closure is with eyes and hooks. All the eyes are there but only the bottom 5 hooks are still present. The bodice measures bust 32 waist 23 inches sleeves 22 inches measured from form shoulder, across back at 15 top and 13 inches center.
Condition is excellent with the bodice needing several hooks sewn in for closure. Lining is stained. There may be slight imperfections that I have failed to notice even upon close examination.
From Me:
My guess is this is from just after the American Civil War. Probably about 1865/1866.
