This is a place for any extant garments in private collections from about 1941 back. There is no beginning date. The only rule is that it can't be currently in a museum and must be before the bombing of Pearl Harbor. I mostly post items I've seen on ebay, etsy, or other auction sites so we will continue to have a record of them for research purposes. If you have antique clothing in your collection, please, email me pictures of them and I will gladly add them to this site.

Early 1870's Bodice
From the seller:
This Auction is for A Victorian Era Ladies Waist Coat.
After measuring I would say this coat would fit a size 6 , but please check size chart to be sure. Fabric is a type of satin jacquard. The fabric itself is still strong and is not shattering. Color is a deep purple/eggplant. This coat is the real deal pre-dates 1900. It is missing buttons and will need some minor TLC / mending, but I feel it could be worn again. Front is missing 3 buttons that could be taken from sleeve cuffs.
Measurements~
Bust: 32 inches
Waist: 24 inches
Sleeves: 18 inches
Back Neckline to Hem: 23 inches
Underarm to End of Tails: 35 inches
Any questions just ask.
From Me:
The seller took a bunch of the photos of the front of the dress and only one of the back. However, it looks like it might support a small bustle so this is either late 1860's or early 1870's.

Intriguing Victorian find! The deep purple satin jacquard is gorgeous. Finding replacement buttons shouldn't be too hard, and the minor mending seems manageable. The bustle support clue definitely points to the early 1870s. Imagine wearing this while playing Retro bowl ! Anyone have experience restoring similar bodices?
