Edwardian Lace Shirtwaist

From the seller:

Antique 1890s Women's Victorian jacket. Made of off-white lace and silk. Has hook and eye closures. Size medium. Measures 36" at the bust, 30" at the waist, 14" shoulder seam to shoulder seam, 24" shoulder seam to end of and 18" overall length. The silk shows some wear in areas and the left cuff lace is torn 3"(photo).

From Me:

From Wearing History
From Christine's 20th Century Fashion Page

Both the above pictures are from 1908. :-) Yes, this is not a jacket nor is it Victorian. And, yes, the seller has it on the dress form backwards.

  1. I'm amazed at how little most of these sellers know about the garments that they are selling! You think if you were going to go into the vintage/antique clothing business you'd at least learn to date and store the products properly!!

    1. Most of the sellers are really just regular Joes who happened upon their Great Aunt's or Grandma's trunk of stuff and have no idea what to do with it other than sell it. A few do sell vintage and antique clothing regularly but they tend to be the ones with the professional backdrops and five+ pictures. The professional sellers are an interesting bunch - a couple of them are pretty good but a couple of others are more about selling an item rather than getting the item right. I'm not sure why- as it would help greatly in selling the item if you got the dating correct!
