This is a place for any extant garments in private collections from about 1941 back. There is no beginning date. The only rule is that it can't be currently in a museum and must be before the bombing of Pearl Harbor. I mostly post items I've seen on ebay, etsy, or other auction sites so we will continue to have a record of them for research purposes. If you have antique clothing in your collection, please, email me pictures of them and I will gladly add them to this site.

Late 1880's Dress
From the seller:
A lovely 1880’s printed challis dress. The fabric has a lavender and dark green floral and leaf patter on a beige background. The dress has a high neck collar. The collar, yoke and sleeve cuffs are trimmed with lavender satin ribbon. The bodice is lined with cotton and the dress has a front button closure. The skirt is unlined except for a wide band of cotton at the edge of the hemline. The dress is in as found fair condition. There are scattered ¼ inch to I inch stress breaks in the fabric, a four inch mend on one of the sleeves and very light underarm discoloration mostly to the inside lining. There are two missing buttons and a few scattered age spots. The sleeve cuffs have some missing ribbon trim. Bust 31 Waist 24 Skirt length.
From Me:
Those fluttery things on the armscye? Those come in right as the bustle gets kicked out the door. It's the start of the sleeves of doom era, also known as the Gay Nineties. So this is probably about 1889.
