This is a place for any extant garments in private collections from about 1941 back. There is no beginning date. The only rule is that it can't be currently in a museum and must be before the bombing of Pearl Harbor. I mostly post items I've seen on ebay, etsy, or other auction sites so we will continue to have a record of them for research purposes. If you have antique clothing in your collection, please, email me pictures of them and I will gladly add them to this site.

1880's Bustle Outfit
From the seller:
A very nice original circa 1878 lady's two piece striped and speckled beige silk polonaise style Summer weight bustle dress accented with brown silk taffeta with matching self fabric buttons and accents at the front closure of the tunic, a side slit watch pocket at the waist, and piped at the armscyes and at the front of skirt accent. The trained skirt is lined in sarcenet and has a pleated hem beneath the polonaise that has a pleated and draped bustle. 16" from shoulder to shoulder, a 36" bust, 27" waist, and 56" from shoulder to front hem. In good clean sound as found condition, with some light perspiration color to the lining of the polonaise style tunic, most at the armscyes, and some scattered frayed thinning spots and holes to the polonaise with two 1/4" by 1" and one 3/4" holes. The underskirt has a few tiny age flaws, most to the underside of the train. A lovely circa 1878 bustle gown
From Me:
It's the details. This is from about 1883 - the ruffled necks were popular then- and I love the way the skirt is folded in the back.
