Can we say 1890's?

From the seller:

One can fully appreciate the pride these ladies took in their appearance as well as their signature of excellent workmanship done lovingly with nimble and artistic fingers, as well a talented eagle eye for fashionable detail and elaborate embellishments from buttons to pleats and so much more. It is amazing to see the combination of contrasting fabrics and textures and the wonderful details that these ladies applied to a single outfit. We see nothing like this today.
(YOU WILL NOTICE WHITE BASTING THREADS DOWN FRONT OF BODICE AND I NOTICE THAT PICTURES HAVE PICKED UP ON PIECES OF WHITE/LIGHT LINT THESE ARE NOT FLAWS.)

TODAY I AM PLEASED TO SHARE WITH YOU THIS FLORAL BROCADE 14 BONED READY TO WEAR MIDNIGHT BLACK HUGE MUTTON SLEEVE BODICE/WAISTCOAT.

You will be most pleased to add this lovely ready to wear piece of history as a cherished addition to you most prized collection of antique clothing.

This is a beautiful specimen of years gone by done in a deep midnight black with a hint of sheen to the overall fabric and a shine to the woven in floral pattern. I am not sure if in fact I am correct to speak of this as a brocade. Please study the pictures carefully. The floral pattern has more shine than the fabric area of the bodice that is not done in the floral pattern. The floral weave is not raised but woven in to the fabric. My guess is this is a silk blend? But has more of a look of cotton except for the floral which has much more shine. The ruched standup collar I feel is silk as I can see a tiny bit of a shattered or frayed look at parts of the upper back edge at the upper neck edge. (See pictures)

This piece features 14 metal bones (I tested with a magnet) and closes down the front with 17 hooks and eyes. 16 hooks are present and 17 eyes.

The HUGE mutton sleeves end with a v notch.

The front features gently pleated folds that fall from shoulders all the way down the front. The back also has the graceful folds.

This piece is fully lined in contrasting beautiful cotton fabric as seen in pictures.

You will see a combination of both machine and hand stitching.

MEASUREMENTS TAKEN AT OUTSIDE OF GARMENT WHILE CLOSED AND LAID FLAT.

BUST 35 INCHES ALL AROUND.

SLEEVE LENGTH 19 1/2 INCHES (FROM UNDERARM SEAM).

STANDUP COLLAR 2 ¼ INCHES TALL.

TOTAL LENGTH 18 ¾ INCHES LONG MEASURED JUST UNDER THE COLLAR.

From Me:

This is an excellent example of an 1890's bodice. I think it may have had a false front at one point but the bodice could have been worn as is as well. Very lovely brocade!
