This is a place for any extant garments in private collections from about 1941 back. There is no beginning date. The only rule is that it can't be currently in a museum and must be before the bombing of Pearl Harbor. I mostly post items I've seen on ebay, etsy, or other auction sites so we will continue to have a record of them for research purposes. If you have antique clothing in your collection, please, email me pictures of them and I will gladly add them to this site.

Mid 1860's Red Bodice
From the seller:
We are selling a large collection of antique clothing that came from a remarkable auction several years ago. All had been accumulated in a trunk by an early Connecticut family. We are selling the items that did not have good identification or that had some minor condition issues. Please check our other auctions to see all 60 items eventually listed.
And please assume that all garments are too small to fit you. We do not care to facilitate destruction of these artifacts by providing detailed measurements to those looking simply for costumes to wear.
Wine colored silk taffeta with a button front but the buttons are missing.
Lined with brown cotton and sleeves are two piece wide elbow coat style.
In fair condition, no rips but some staining and evidence where trim has been removed. Great example to use to show construction of Civil War period garments.
From Me:
I love the color on this! I'm thinking it could be from the tail end of the American Civil War, roughly 1865.
