Purple Bustle Dress

From the seller:

Victorian ca 1870's Iridescent Bustle Polonaise Dress Sm

This brocade is gorgeous, it's an iridescent silk in plum and black and has a brigther purple and black brocaded design. The collar, cuffs and neckband is black velvet and it buttons from neck to waist with covered black velvet buttons. The bodice is lined in brown cotton, the skirt/bustle is not lined. The bottom of the skirt on the bodice curves longer to the back. The back is gored and is tucked to make a bustle. It comes with a black heavy silk satin half skirt that ties on like an apron. It looks like this is what came with it, but maybe should have had a black petticoat as well, if you're not careful it will separate at the bottom on the sides to show the petticoat or you can put a couple of tack stitches to hold the brocade to the front side so it doesn't blow back to show where the half skirt ends. The bodice measures 35 1/2 inches around the bust, waist is 25 1/2, across the back shoulder is 12 1/2 inches and it's 57 inches long from base of the neck to bottom in center back. The apron skirt is on a waistband that ties in back, it's lined in cotton and has a stiff interling with the hem faced in velvet. Some wear on the folded edge of the half skirt and one button has to be sewn on the bodice, but the button is there. The skirt is 38 inches long from the waist. The bodice is in near mint condition, the skirt is excellent. De-accessioned from a museum and inventory tags are attached.
