This is a place for any extant garments in private collections from about 1941 back. There is no beginning date. The only rule is that it can't be currently in a museum and must be before the bombing of Pearl Harbor. I mostly post items I've seen on ebay, etsy, or other auction sites so we will continue to have a record of them for research purposes. If you have antique clothing in your collection, please, email me pictures of them and I will gladly add them to this site.

American Civil War Era Wrapper Dress
From the seller:
Wow wee here is a really nice Antique Cotton Day dress with a red and brown gingham pattern. It is in very good condition and i'd say it is from around the 1880s. It has two small tears. The buttons are missing. It is a smaller size, probably about a women's size 4 today. Please email any questions..U.S. only thanks!!!!!

I was looking more closely at the dress and the inside lining is a very thin material, there are a couple small hairline tears around where the shoulder would be (on the inside) from being worn.

I got a question about the strength of the inside material of the dress. The inside is a strong material, it is the same type of material as the outside, nice and heavy cotton. It is thinner and worn just around where the shoulders would go on the inside. Please feel free to email any questions because I am not an expert. Thanks!
From Me:
No bustle. No train. I'm not sure why the seller believes it's from the 1880's. It's definitely earlier - most likely the early to mid 1860's based upon the waist line, shoulders, and sleeves.
